Worried... :(

Our wedding is on 3/31/12 and probably about 70% of our guests are from out of town.  I was looking at flights today and noticed that flight prices for that weekend are already really high!!!  From New York, they are about $350-400 for non-stop flights!  I know March is one of the high season months but I guess I didn't expect flights prices to have already sky rocketed.  Thought they would go up after the new year.  Now I'm worried that none of our friends will be able to come! :( I know some of our friends have already booked their hotels but I'm not sure if anyone has booked their flights yet.

We sent our Save the Dates out back in August.  Do you think it makes sense for me to send around an email to everyone just to give them a heads up to book their hotel/flight arrangements sooner rather than later...?  I probably should have done that  a month or two ago but I didn't think prices would already be this expensive!

My wedding is March 2nd and my immidiate family is flying in from NJ and I too have been worried about the prices on the flight.

Try checking farecast.com.  They give you the prices of all airlines and tell you if you should buy or wait.  I looked last week and found some flights from 244-260 and when I looked yesterday the price had gone up a lot but it also adviced me to wait that it would be going down.  I am just going to keep checking and letting my sister know so she can let everyone know.  I am so happy to be getting married here in Florida but the stress of what people will be paying to come is a lot!!  :(

Were you able to find a reasonable hotel?  I was able to find one by my house for 160 which is the cheapest, nicest place I could find.  Unfortunatly its not by the beach so I think some guest will have to rent a car also :(

It couldn't hurt to send out a reminder about the flights. If anything, add a note to your wedding website to remind guests to book their flights and hotels as soon as possible. I'm a March bride as well. Just remember that somethings are out of your hands. good luck!

I would tell people - especially those most important to you. They may just continue to go up as it gets colder in ny/nj and spring break gets closer.

This happened to me too!  My guest count was way off partially because of this.  Do you have a blog on your wedding website?  I think that would be a great way to communicate this.  The blog feature is super helpful as you can blog about important details like "invitations are out", "last day to room block is ____", ect.

I'd shoot everyone an email to remind them and include links to helpful websites (priceline, kayak, etc).

Thanks ladies!  Ok, so I checked bing.com and it looks like its saying to wait on buying tickets, prices should be going down.  Hopefully that's true!  I will probably be checking the price predictor every day now until the wedding!  I also sent around a heads up email to everyone so that they can start looking into their flights/hotels.

Most of my guests flew into MIA from NY. Whenever I looked online and found good deals <$200 RT I would email people to let them know. My friend waited till the last minute and actually booked a RT ticket from NY for $189 the week before. Her flight times sucked but it was what she needed anyway, flew in Sat morn and out Sun morn.

Wow that's good that she found a ticket that low a week before the wedding! I really hope prices go down soon. Now I'm worried that none of our friends will be able to come. Some of our friends are coming in from Chicago, San Fran and tickets are about $500-600 right now, that's outrageous! I still can't believe how high the prices are 4 months out!

I wasn't able to find any hotel that would give me a reasonable discount on a block of rooms (my wedding is 3/3/12) so I just put on my website a few recommended hotels in varying price points.  That's scary about the airfares!  My website ended up getting covered up on my STDs so I sent out an additional "FYI" postcard with the wedding website on it.
