Flower costs

I'm curious what everyone is spending on flowers. Met Market came back with a quote that was a lot higher than I was expecting ($1,200, not including centerpieces or delivery), and I'm not sure if it's because of the flowers I'm requesting (though I know that has something to do with it) or if I'm just out of touch. Includes my bouquet, bouquets for 5 bridesmaids, 4 wristlets for moms/fam, 4 bouts, and two ceremony arrangements. Would like to get some persepctive on this. Thanks!

We also ended up spending more than we originally hoped.  I chalked it mostly up to not being really savvy on how much flowers cost (a lot!) :)  Our final bill came to ~$1,600 - this covers my bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, 4 bouts, 2 corsages, two ceremony arrangements and 8 centerpieces.  It sounds like our costs are relatively similar...

I learned the other day that standard florist markup starts at 300% of wholesale cost...

Which is why I am DIYing my flowers.  For all of the flowers for the wedding, it will be less than $400.

What kind of flowers did you get?  My florist did my bouquet, one BM's bouquet, six bouts, nine corsages and eleven centerpieces, plus an arbor rental for less than $400.  We specifically asked about flowers that would be hardy and pretty but inexpensive, though.  On the other hand, we didn't get any ceremony arrangements, and if they're big, I know they can be costly...

for ours we just went to safeway for the centerpieces $15 per table, doing 20 tables, and then my tabl we are putting my bouquet in a vase. so its $350 for all that, then still need something pretty for the archway, most likely DIYing that.  BM's bouquets we DIYed with silk flwoers,  my bouquet is silk from Etsy

We almost paid $800 for the flowers but then I ended up wanting 2 bouquets and 2 corsages and ending up paying $80 for those and I am diying the CPS

Met actually was about middle range to higherish for quotes I received (and I got quotes from 8 florists).  We're paying about $1000 for our flowers - CPs, bouts, corsages, bouquets, and petals for the aisle, cake and sweetheart table.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The flowers I'm using are garden roses, dahlias, colored cala lillies and fillers. The two ceremony pieces make up more than $400 of the cost, my bouquet would be about $175 and the BM bouquets are $75 each. I'm going to do centerpieces (the ones that will be flowers, anyway, which is only half of them) from Pike Place Market.

Yea, I'm ordering my bouquet through a florist, and the rest is wholesale (3 DIY BM bouquets + 10 DIY centerpieces + 7 leis instead of bouts/corsages).  Our total for flowers + vases = ~500 (in Maui).

With the florists, you're paying for their time and expertise.  Your call on whether you want to do that or try to DIY.

Yeah, I know I'm paying for their time, and I understand it (I bill my time at work, too), I just wasn't expecting it to be that high...especially for Met Market. A lot of people told me they were cheaper than independent florists.

At this point I don't want to get myself in too deep with DIY flowers...especially expensive flowers that are on the cusp of the season. I'm DIYing favors (caramel apples) a couple days before the wedding, and I really don't want to deal with the stress of doing my bouquets all prior to the rehearsal the day before the wedding. I guess I just have to bite the bullet!

    we're diying just for this. I don't think we'll spend more than 350. :)

I recommend checking with a couple other independent florists.  They actually were less expensive, especially the ones where they operated out of their home vs. having a storefront.  I also recommend as PPs mentioned, if you have the time to DIY the CPs and have a florist do the bouquets, bouts & corsages, that could help save some $.

We had a quote from Met. Mkt. too.  Your prices seem comparable to what we were quoted last year, so for them that seems about right.

We didn't end up going with them, but used Fena Flowers in Kirkland (& worked with Jen.).  I highly recommend them!  Their prices were better, they were very helpful, really listened to what we wanted, offered suggestions when we weren't sure and did a really good job staying within our budget.  Our order was my bouquet, DH bout., two alter large arrangements with vase rental and 22 small centerpieces.  With delivery, rental pick-up at our venue, tax & all items our order was just about $675.00.

    Thanks for the rec, darby!

Tygirl, mind me asking which florist you used? The quote from Met Market didn't even include centerpieces, so there's really nothing to cut out.

If anyone else has recs for florists on the eastside, I'd appreciate it mucho.

I'm spending about $500 on 4 BM bouquets, my bouquet, 3 bouts and two corsages, plus a manzanita branch display.  The flowers for the reception I am buying the day of at Pike Place Market.

Irshis - I went with Sharon of The Perfect Petal http://perfectpetaldesigns.com/ .  She wasn't THE lowest quote I got, but I did meet with (literally) several florists and based on reviews, vibes, and quotes, felt most confident with her.  Plus she was only like $50 more than the lowest quote I got, so not far off. :)
