missing gifts issue!

So...UPS attempted to deliver wedding gifts while we were out of town for the wedding.

Apparently they made their 3 "attempts" to deliver (no notes were left or anything) and one of the items was sent back to the store and the person got refunded their money. The other two gifts UPS is saying were delivered...but they weren't.

How on earth should I handle this? For the two missing gifts we're not even sure who they're from, so I can't write a proper thank you note! I'm worried that UPS left the gifts with our crazy neighbor, but I can't prove it. We definitely did not sign for anything though.

Is it the responsibility of the store that shipped the gift to handle these situations?

Help! I at the very least want to make sure I can write thank you notes to the people whose gifts are missing because the sentiment was still there from them even if we didn't actually get the gift.

Re: missing gifts issue!

  • Do you have the tracking numbers for the packages that have disappeared?  Do they show what happened?  I would bug UPS about this, as well as the store that shipped, if it was sent directly from a store.
  • My husband called UPS and they only said that they had two confirmed deliveries from the dates we were away - I guess we could go a step further and ask for the exact tracking numbers, but because no door tags (that we know of) were ever left we didn't have that info when making the calls.

Not sure what tracking numbers would do at this point though (if UPS confirmed as "already delivered")

  • UPS delivered a package for me to the wrong address, and the person there signed for it and accepted it.  It was a gift that I knew I was getting, so I had the tracking number and could see that it had been delivered and was able to get the name of who signed for it from UPS using this info.  The store ended up sending me a replacement, and they were going to work it out with UPS--they had insurance for the shipment (not sure if all UPS shipments have a certain amount of insurance).

We also had an issue where we moved and someone ordered from WS and shipped it to our old house.  We didn't register there, but we explained it to WS customer service and they shipped us new items, saying that the old ones would be returned eventually by FedEx.  FedEx actually forwarded the package to our new address, so we just brought the duplicates back to the store.  That was a long way of saying that some stores will work with you to make sure you get your stuff.
  • Do you live in an apt?  If so, don't forget to check at the front office.

  • Yup I've had 2 gifts delivered when I wasn't home from kohls. I just found this out tonight. I've sent kohls a message online and I'm hoping to hear back within 24 hours according to the site. Hopefully they have insurance because this person spent a good amount of money on these gifts for us. I'm glad they had insurance and you got the gift regardless. Hoepefully that happens for us as well because I feel awful this person spent money and we didn't get the gift.
