Alternative Guest book idea

I'm so excited about this idea!!  I just found it on TK.

FI and I are going to pick fabric that we like and goes with our home decor and cut it into quilting squares.  Then put them out with fabric markers so each of our guests can put well-wishes on a square and I can sew it into a quilt.  That way the well wishes of our guests can make us feel warm and cozy forever.

My boss just gave me a quilt rack from his barn a couple of months ago so after the wedding I can re-finish it and put our guest book quilt on it.  This just made my whole week much better Smile

Re: Alternative Guest book idea

  • That's such a fun idea! I love personal guest books, and guest books that are actually useful. I will never understand the whole "oh, sign your name in a book so we know you were here!" concept.

We're getting a piece of plywood and painting it gray. Then we are setting out spray paint and paint pens for guests to create their own piece of art. They can sign it, write advice, jokes, whatever on it or even draw us a picture. We're just going to ask that no one cover someone elses' work. :)
  • Great idea!  I love it!

  • Cool!  I really like it.

We're doing wine bottles signed with silver or gold sharpies.  I was sure FI would flip out over the idea being non-traditional (he's used to all the old fashioned boring stuff they do around here) but when I told him about it he replied "how did I know you would want something to do with wine?"  and he liked it.  I've got a huge wine collection, so these will just go on a special rack for decor.  FI isn't a wine drinker, so I don't think we'll drink them on anniversaries.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Those are all really cute ideas. We're just going with the picture frame and some sharpies. We'll hang the picture up in our living room after the wedding. I have a wall in my house that's bare and boring that it would go on perfectly.

  • We did that for a friend's baby shower and it was awesome. We all made our own squares and her mother made a quilt with it; what a wonderful keepsake!

That's a really cool idea too! I don't think the bottles would last very long around my house, FI and I like our wine too much.  :-)

This is a fun idea too!  I'm definitely more of a fan of the useful guestbooks.  I like it to be something that I'll want to look at for the rest of my life instead of just a log of who attended the wedding.

  • That's a great idea.  We are doing the picture frame mat with sharpies as well but I'm a total picture whore (not that I like to be in them, I just like to hang them).  I really like the quilt as a baby shower idea too.
  • I love the  quilt idea, we've done this at my work for certain things.  I thought about this for a wedding shower!  It's a great idea!
