Congrats to your friend!  I am plus size and I purchased my dress at Priscilla of Boston in Short Hills - they make the dress according to your body and measurements. Not sure if it's required for all dresses, but I am being fitted for a muslin that my dress will be made from. I also know Russells in Linden usually carries more plus sizes than other bridal stores. Hope this helps. :]

I went to Sales Unlimited in Bayville and they had a LOT of plus size samples to try.  I ended up getting my dress at Park Avenue Bridals in Verona.  I like the selection at Sales Unlimited better, it just so happens that Park Avenue Bridals had 1 dress that I absolutely fell in love with. They are both definitely worth a look.  Also Antoinette Rose in Brick and Belmar, I'm pretty sure they carry plus size samples.

Thanks for all of this, ladies!

I'm plus sized and while I'm not ready to buy my dress..I know I want to look at other places besides David's Bridal.

    Thanks!!!

Ditto for Park Avenue Bridals! I got my gown there too and they had a bunch of plus size gowns in all different styles. I had also gone to Russles, which had a nice selection as well. Park Avenue just had more and carried the designer I wanted.

When I called up Park Ave, they were rude to me and said they only had a handful on dresses.. but I COULD  hold up the smaller size dresses  to my body and see how it would look....

I guess I got someone on a bad day- I never went in to try on dresses.

Arlene's Bridal in Bloomfield had a ton of plus size samples. My dress ended up being a size 20, and when I tried on samples at Arlene's, they were mostly all one or two sizes big on me.. and not one that I tried on was too small. So I would definitely suggest she check it out.

I had a horrible experience there too...just because the woman helping me had no clue, I showed her pics of what I was looking for, and everything she pulled was completely different (I printed out dresses I had seen on their website). They told me they didn't have any of those samples in the store, and i had printed like 8 or 9 of them. I also told her my budget of $800 and she wasn't able to show me ONE dress that was $800 or less, except for some random sample gown they pulled from the back that was falling apart. I didn't end up trying on any dresses at my appointment and would NEVER recommend that store.

I agree about Arlene's Bridal in Bloomfield - I had a great experience there. I actually ended up getting a discontinued dress right off the rack from there 14 months in advance because I feel in love and couldn't beat the price!!! They have a plus size section with a variety of different options and I worked will Allie who was fantastic!!!

Ditto Park Ave (ask for Patty or Amanda) and Arlene's. I got the bridesmaids dresses at Arlene's, they're fantastic there. I know the two ladies I mentioned at Park Ave are amazing, not sure about other sales people.
