Meaning of "Surprise Diamonds"

My fiancee purchased a ring setting from a jeweler that had two "surprise" diamonds set on the inside of the band. He didn't even realize they were there until after the appraisal. Does anyone know the meaning behind "surprise diamonds"?

Generally there for when you look at the ring sidewise from what I know (so you see them when you look straight across your hand rather than down at your hand)

I do not know the meaning of them either, but I have two surprise diamonds on each side of mine as well. I love that it adds to the side of my setting.
