WHAT TO DO?

I have look at some long term weather predictions for my wedding which is this May. (5/21/2011) Sadly they are calling for thunderstorms. Should I try to find an indoor alternative or wait till closer to the wedding and take a risk of not being able to find anything available?

  • I would start looking for an alternative. You could look into how much a tent will be and if it's possible to get it the day of, that way you can wait and see what the weather will be like.

We're having out ceremony outside and our reception inside at the same place so if it rains, we can move the ceremony inside.
  • You should have a few options in mind, just in case it rains.  A tent, back-up indoor location, or whatever.  You can start talking to companies and getting estimates now, so that if the week of the wedding it looks like it's going to rain, you will have some information that you can use to execute a good plan:-)  And you'll have the money budgeted...

Having said that, I'm not sure how much faith I would put in a forecast that is over a month out....but still, in May, there is a good chance that you'll get rain, so it's good to have a backup plan.

  • I agree with PP - don't put any stock in a long term weather prediction.  It's a good idea to have a backup plan, though, especially in a rain month like May.

  • You should definitely look for alternatives.  Maybe look at renting a tent.  We were married on May 24th and it was pouring down rain until about 20 minutes before our ceremony.  We were lucky enough to have the ceremony outside but we were also set up inside just in case.
