Wedding Invitations & Paper

FI asked a funny question tonight..

So I was online designing possible invitations, I would like to get a DIY kit and assemble them myself, or something along those lines.  I was looking at Pocketfold invitations, I found some decent priced ones that I liked, where I would get the card stock to mount inside with the invitation and then put all the inserts in the pocket...simple right?

Well my FI was looking at what I was doing and all he had to contribute was..."How will people hang that on their fridge?" I giggled but then I was like he is right. Ha

So it made me think, and I was wondering what kind of invitations you used for your wedding Pocketfold or a simple flat inviation? Any pros/cons from experience with either?

  • I'm using flat.

Invites scare the crap out of me. Too many options. Too many things to go inside envelopes. More envelopes. I don't know what half of it means.

We got flat ones from Wedding Paper Divas. Cheaper, adorable and yes...perfect for fridges :)

  • I feel the same way after looking at all these options!! It is so overwhelming and I am really starting to lean towards flat as well, especially now that I know how FI feels about the pockets! Ha

  • Ours aren't pocket folds but are called "ribboned folders" I think. They're by Arabella Papers. They definitely wouldn't hold up well being hung on a fridge, and I don't have magnetic refrigerators so I never even thought of that, ha.

Your guests will find ways to remember your wedding date without having to put the invite somewhere in their kitchen - don't let that be a factor in picking out your invites :)

Pros for pocketfold/folders - everythings organized in one place, guests have somewhere to keep all the inserts.
cons for pocketfolds - bulky, can add to postage rates
Pros for flat - can be hung up if you want them to be, easier to frame for keepsakes, lower postage
Cons for flat - loose inserts in envelopes, pieces might get lost

Really, it's up to you which style you prefer.
  • FWIW, I don't put invites on my fridge. I do put STDs, though. Honestly, I don't know if I'd use 'being able to hang on a fridge' as a criterion. Go with what you like, what you can afford and what is feasable for you to assemble yourself.

We went with one flat invite that hold both ceremony & reception info on it, a RSVP postcard & map from the reception hall. I also lined the envelopes. It was more than enough for me.
  • Ditto pp; we don't put any wedding invites on our fridge.  I usually write the date on the calendar and toss the invite or put it in a folder to pull out for reference later.
  • Thanks everyone! We dont put invitations on our fridge either so IDK why he even brought that up! I just thought it was funny and wanted to share and hear your general thoughts on invites.

Im not sure what Im going to go with yet, but how 'fridge friendly' an invitation is will not be taken into consideration!

  • You can still stick a pocketfold on a fridge with a magnet....
