What's your favorite book?

I'm curious what your favorite books are (either by Christian authors or not). I'm going to need something to do when this wedding planning is over!

My most recent favorite book is "Authentic Faith" by Gary Chapman. I also love reading Diana Gabaldon's books - I think the one I couldn't get my nose out of was Breath of Snow and Ashes. Thick but REALLY good!!

July 16, Our Wedding Day, is also International Juggling Day!

Another vote for the Harry Potter books... I'm obsessed! They're such easy reads and you can't put them down!

I also loved Water for Elephants.. INCREDIBLE story and now I can't wait for the movie to come out on dvd since it's already been in the theaters.

I do have that goal! To be on track I need to be at 26 and I'm currently reading what I think is #18. I might have missed a couple, so it might actually be 20 or 21. Either way, I'm a little behind! I went through a slump of reading some books that weren't that great so I wasn't reading much. When I finally gave myself permission to let them go, my reading time picked back up. Now that my summer program is over, I have time to get back at it.

You're supposed to all say the Bible... sinners. Wink

A Prayer for Owen Meany, The Kite Runner (book was better than the movie), anything by Paulo Choelo, I did read all the Twilight books quickly... I say it was to be a good youth leader... but they do suck you in. (The literature part of me wants to die for admitting that).

Christianity wise Prodigal God by far is my favorite. I like Erwin McManus a lot, Good and Beautiful God/Life, Francis Chan, I liked reading Love Wins, anything that makes me think :)

Speaking of Christian authors, is anyone a George MacDonald fan? I'm a HUGE CS Lewis fan (like just about everyone else), so my Christian Classics prof in college said if I love CS Lewis I'd like George MacDonald as well and recommended that I start with Lilith. I hated it. I know MacDonald inspired Lewis, so I'm wondering if I started with the wrong book, or if loving one doesn't necessariy equate to liking the other.

ETA - ditto SummerKutie - I freaking loved Water for Elephants. I hope the movie does it justice. I'm finding that I'm not a fan of the HP movies. Apparently I'm just not a book-to-movie kind of girl.

For Christian authros, I love anything by Dee Henderson, Lori Wick, Ted Decker, Francine Rivers.

For non christian authors, Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, Orson Scott Card, Peter Dickenson and Lois Lowry

Thanks for the recs, I will give those a shot. I just kept reading Lilith and thinking "How in the world is this guy anything like CS Lewis and why did Gary think I would like this book?!"

Of course, if I'm honest, part of my dislike might have been because I couldn't fully concentrate on it. I read most of it via aisle light during rehearsals :-P
