Suggestions for place to stay for planning trip

FI and I have decided to take a planning trip to Maui Jan 18-23rd. We are trying to do this as cheap as possible. Anyone have any suggestions for where we could stay?  We are wanting to stay near Lahaina. And would like it to be under $150 per night. The closer to $100 it is, the better. I'd really appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

The Polynesian Shores is having pretty good deals on right now. We had a bunch of guests stay there and they really liked it. The condos are all individually owned, so the decor is mixed depending on which one you stay in. It's on Lower Honoapilani, about a 10-15 minute drive north of Lahaina.

Aina nalu is a few blocks from front St. Rates are under $150 normally. I did a package deal through expedia and got the room for $125 a nite. They are condos with full kitchen, washer dryer.

Check out alohacondos.com we booked our condo through them and it's less than $200 a night right on the water!

I don't know if you have your flights too yet, but we used bookit.com for a package deal.  It worked out to just under $1000 each for flights and hotel.  We've used them before, and they were good.  Try comparing the travel sites for the packagesOtherwise, I have no Maui suggestions.

I suggest using http://www.vrbo.com. I've used that website for lodging on: The Big Island, Paris and New York and have not been disappointed. Every vacation rental we've stayed at was great and was always within our budget! We stayed in a nice vacation rental on The Big Island for $65/night! Insane!

Just look around the site and keep your options open. I usually send an inquiry request to as many of the owners and sometimes owners have more than one property, so they'll have options.

    Good luck!

I've stayed at the Aina Nalu 3 or 4 times now and it's very nice and because it has a kitchen you can save money by going to the grocery store and cooking instead of eating out every meal which gets really expensive in Hawaii. VRBO.com is another good option, just make sure to read the fine print, sometimes the hidden cost make it more expensive.  But in this economy the owners might be willing to work with you on a good rate, especially since Jan is not usually a busy month.
