Unique venue ideas needed

Hello everyone!

I thought I found the PERFECT venue for my January 2014 wedding...a beautiful rustic building at Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer in Frombell, PA (wooden walls covered in tall glass windows, stone fireplace...perfect for a romantic winter wedding).  This camp provides overnight summer camps for all kids (it is an inclusive camp for kids who have disabilities).  My background is special education & occupational therapy, so my fiance and I love the idea of putting money into a facility that will indirectly benefit the kids who go to camp.  And, there are also cabins where guests can stay overnight, which is a neat idea!

Long story short - the camp director told me they are only having weddings in March & September of 2014.....seriously?! That's so random! I was so bummed to hear this & now am trying to find another venue that is just as unique & fits my personal style.

Do you ladies have any suggestions of places in the Northeast Ohio or Western PA areas?  We need to accommodate about 200-230 guests & want to keep the cost as LOW as possible.

Thank you!! :)

  • Awww, that's a bummer!  It's cool you want to have your wedding someplace like that. If you post this on the local boards, you will probably get more helpful and specific suggestions. Links to the left. Good luck!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Is there any way to move the wedding up to September 2013 instead of January 2014?    It sounds like an amazing venue that has a lot of personal meaning to you guys as a coupe.  If this isn't an option, then maybe you could still make a donation to the camp.

Your local board will be a better resource for finding other venues.  Maybe there's something else out there that will be just as special to you:-)  Good luck!

  • It sounds like an amazing venue... any way you would want to just move your date? We are getting married in a State Park lodge with the same feel (and in January... in front of the stone fireplace in the great room with a ton of windows. lol) ... maybe look around your area for state parks, local parks, and nature reserves and see what they have to offer?

Also, March and September kind of make sense. If the camp is open April-ish to August, then they use the month before and month after for weddings and extra reenue. It porbably isn't worth the operating costs and upkeep to keep it open year round when only using it for camp for a few months. Still sucks though :(

    Good luck :)

[QUOTE]That sounds like a cool place. Any reason you don't like March or Spetember? I'm sure that place would be beautiful in the spring or end of summer/early fall.

<div>I would love to move the wedding to March/September.  My brother plays soccer at the collegiate level & his season runs from August --> November-ish.  His games are played on weekends and he could be playing anywhere in the country.  The soccer programs don't have their 2014 schedules out yet, so we're trying to avoid those months all together.  Unfortunately, he can't miss a game for the wedding....</div><div>
</div><div>I don't want to risk not having him there!</div>
