Addressing Inner Envelopes

Hi Ladies,

I know I don't post here once, but I'm having a dilemma and need your advice. I'm preparing my address list for the calligrapher and am trying to figure out how to address the inner envelopes. The stationer who did my invitations said the inner envelope is Mr. and Mrs. Jones (as opposed to the outside on which says Mr. and Mrs. John Jones). But I know I read somewhere that it's okay to use their first names if they're close family and friends. I'm trying to set a formal tone but also don't want to be too formal (especially when a lot of people are close family members). What do you think I should do?

I cannot believe I'm stressing over something this minor but... I guess you all would understand how the tiny details can seem to matter the most! Hope you're all having a good weekend.

    Your stationer is right: You drop the first names for the inner envelopes :)

    To make it formal but not "too" formal, I'd drop the inner envelopes.  But it's only a matter of preference :)

    I addressed the inner envelopes to all of the "adults" (parents, aunts/uncles, grandparents, older co-workers, etc) as Mr. and Mrs. Last Name and addressed the ones to friends and cousins with their first names.

    I am having a small-ish wedding. 80-100.  I used first names on the inner evenlopes as all my guests are either close friends or family.  We really wanted our guest list limited to people we actually know and enjoy spending time with.

    I've been doing a few one way and a few the other.
    I have been doing the older couples as "Mr. and Mrs. Jones" and the younger ones/our friends as "Kevin and Maryann"

    Probably not too helpful if you are using a calligrapher. I just felt like saying "Mr. Jones an Guest" if they don't have a significant other was really odd, I prefered "Kevin and Guest"

    I did mine like this.

    Outer envelope: Mr. and Mrs. John Jones.
    Inner envelope: John and Amy Jones  or  John Jones and Guest

    That may not be perfect ettiquite, but as a woman, I like seeing my name on things too, not just as a Mrs.  It worked for me.

    I did mines as your calligrapher suggested. I think it's a personal preference though. I want my wedding to be formal but not too formal as well, and I wasn't even going to include inner envelopes but they came free with my invitation package so I didn't want to waste them. Don't worry, before deciding what I wanted I stressed over this too but after seeing some examples on Google, I just chose one that I thought fit the mood of my wedding.

    Great! Thanks for all the input. FI wants to do what the calligrapher suggested so I'll do that and maybe make a few exceptions for immediate family members.
