Rehearsal Dinner Question

Hi all!

I am a newly engaged wedding newbie. My fi and I are the first of our close friends to get married, and I have never even been to a wedding before. My question is about the rehearsal dinner. It seems to be a topic that isn't talked about much, but obviously someone has to plan and pay for it. My future in-laws are already footing almost half of the wedding cost. Do I still assume they will pay for the RD as tradition? My family is not very well off financially, and will contribute as much as they can, but I know that will not be much. Do I add the rehearsal dinner to my budget, and plan it myself? I am quite lost with many things wedding, but this really is confusing for me!

If your in-laws have already offered to pay for almost half of the wedding, I don't see a problem asking them what they feel comfortable covering, if it includes the rehearsal dinner (this is only because they already offered, obviously).

A rehearsal dinner doesn't by any means need to be a fancy elaborate dinner. Go to your ceremony venue (church, outside, wherever) and then have guests over for pizza and drinks to your house, if that is all that fits in your budget.

I wouldn't assume they are going to pay for it, unless they have offered. Like PP said it does not have to be fancy by any means. Pizza is completely acceptable. Personally I would prefer something more low key especially if the wedding is the next day.

Unless you hear otherwise, plan it yourself, I would never assume someone was going to pay for something. If they offer, great, if not you already have a plan aren't left in the lurch.
