First look?

Hi All,

I am getting married in 10 days and I am super-excited.  Everything has been pretty easy going until now.  I am not sure what to do about photography.

Our wedding is at 5PM and the photographer comes at 2PM, is this enough time to do "getting ready shots," pictures with me and my parents and bridal party, and pictures of my finance with his parents and bridal party AND a first look session?

There is only 1 hour between the ceremony and the reception and is this enough time to get in group shots and all of the shots if we don't do a first look?

I am feeling quite lost here!

Re: First look?

  • I think you've got plenty of time, but it's really a discussion you should have with your photog.  I assume you're using someone experienced, so he/she should have a good idea of how long it takes.  We did ALL of our photos in 2 hours pre-ceremony, though we did not do getting ready shots, so if you're saving some photos for after I think you'll be fine with 3 hours.
  • A first look moment should be something you and your FI discuss. If you want to do it, talk to your photog and see how much time it takes and if there is enough time with everything else.

  • Oh, and I could be wrong, but I swear our first look only took about 10 minutes.  We did more photos after that of just the two of us, but if you wanted to save the couple photos for after the ceremony, you totally could.
  • As everyone else said, the photographer should know. :) Talk to them. Our photographer is doing all group photos and first look before the ceremony (in only 2 hrs), and then we're having our bride and groom portrait session after the reception. It's an afternoon wedding.

We scheduled 30 minutes for our first look and an hour for pictures and we took every bit of that time and then some.  We also had to be done with pictures an hour before the ceremony.  It really depends on your venue, your photographer, your timeline, etc.

Do you need to bustle your dress? touch  up make up?  Drive to the reception venue?  These are all things that may cut into that hour....
