hotel accomodations

How are you all doing hotel accomodations? Are you setting aside rooms? In 1 hotel? 2?
Our wedding site and our chapel site are about 45 mins away from one another. Should I do one in each town? And when are you setting them aside? Before or after you get RSVP's

Thanks!!

Re: hotel accomodations

  • Many people are going to want to make their hotel reservations before or at the time that they RSVP so waiting until after you get the RSVPs to block rooms isn't going to be very useful.  Also, many hotels release the blocks several weeks before your wedding so you couldn't do that anyway.

I blocked rooms at 2 hotels, and did so about 8 months before the wedding.  In your situation, I would block a hotel near the reception site, definitely, and perhaps one somewhere in the middle of the two sites.

  • I blocked hotel rooms as early as the hotel would let me and added the info to our website then.  I also included it with our invitations.

As for where to put the block - I'd go with close to the reception, especially if you're serving alcohol.  Make it a short cab ride for people who need one.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • I blocked rooms as soon as the hotel would let me (a lot of our guests are OOT). We blocked rooms with the hotel closest to the reception. Many hotels will let you block off rooms fairly early which is a benefit because you can sometimes get better rates by doing this early. Although our hotel will not actually let anyone reserve the rooms until 1 year before the wedding, they let us block the rooms off now to get the discounted group rate they are currently offering (with the special rate, our guests will be saving $25 a night).

  • I blocked rooms at one hotel just before we sent out STDs (about 7 months prior).  We only reserved a block at one hotel because it has plenty of space, is right by the reception, will provide a shuttle for guests to and from the reception, and is reasonably priced.
I also listed one other hotel on our website if guests wanted to stay someplace else, but didn't set aside a block of rooms.
  • We only did 1 hotel thats right across the street from the reception.  We are in an area that has plenty of hotels though so if people wanted to stay somewhere else they could easily google another hotel.

Reserve the block ASAP, and let people know as early as you can wth your website or email.  Our hotel released the block one month prior to the wedding, or else we would have been responsible to pay for any unbooked rooms.  So we actually sent out our invites at 8 weeks to give people a couple weeks to decide and book.

I would go with one near the reception.  if anything else maybe another one that splits the decision.  Our bigger concern for the hotel was our guests getting their safely, so we picked one in walking distance.  Most of the guests staying there live in the same city as the reception just don't want to have to worry about driving.
