1st Fitting and Veil Update for bridetobe!

I had my first fitting on Saturday, I was really nervous, but excited that I still love my dress! The length is perfect so I don't need any alterations there. I am just adding some cups and adding the buslte. I can't believe how much bustles cost! Mine is $200 for a traditional bustle and then she showed us another french bustle option that cost $300. Even though I liked the look of the french bustle better, I couldn't justify paying $100 more for it. How much are you girl's bustles costing??? I was sad when my mom told me I need to do back exercises so I don't have back fat showing on my dress. It's a lace up back and so this is inevitable to happen, even the alterations lady said the skinny twig girls have back fat wearing their dresses. So now I'm considering wearing my veil the entire night to cover this up, lol. Anyone else concerned about this??
Also I brought my spanx to try on with the dress and the alterations lady said NOT to wear them. She said it adds about 1-2 inches and is extra bulk. She said the wedding dresses are made to smooth you and slim you already. I took them off and my dress actually did fit better and not to mention it was a lot cooler.
bridetobe - My ivory veil will work with my dress, it's a little darker. I would recommend ordering the diamond white color for your dress.
I only took one pic in my dress...

    YOU. LOOK. GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!

And thank you for the update re the veil. If I can't figure out how to purchase the diamond white (it wasn't adding to my cart correctly last week), I'll just do ivory - I think it'll be fine with my dress, honestly.

Edited to add: Sorry, I have absolutely no idea how much the bustle is costing. My mom is covering the alterations and I didn't totally listen to what the seamstress was saying. I believe she said something around 300 for the bustle portion, though.

My alterations are fairly cheap in my opinion they are costing my mom $200 and that is including the bustle. My dress has a sweep train so my bustle is small.

BTW: You look awesome in your dress!

  • I think you look awesome in your dress!  I am no help with the bustle situation since my dress is tea length.  Sorry.

  • You look absolutely STUNNING! Love your dress! and your veil looks great with your dress - I don't think anyone would ever notice it being darker than your dress (it doesn't look darker at all from the picture!!)

I have no idea what mine is costing yet - I am waiting for my extra fabric to come to add my one-shoulder strap before meeting with my seamstress (it is supposed to be here within the next two weeks) but I have been told to expect about 300-400 total for the bustle, converting to a soft sweetheart, and adding one-shoulder strap.
  • You look gorgeous!! I LOVE your dress.

I had my first fitting on Saturday and my alterations are only costing $125 (to take in a few inches). She said we would talk about bustling at my second fitting so I have no idea what it's going to cost me yet.

  • My alterations are costing me about $275 with no major adjustments to the legnth, although my dress does have alot of lace detail. So it sounds about similar in price.

  • My alterations are costing $170 total and that includes shortening it by about 4 inches and the bustle. I believe my bustle was about $100.

  • LOVE!!! MY bustle was only $85 I believe!  The place does an awesome job & I got my dress there too...if I didn't it would have been that plus 25%!

I will be having some back fat too! Honestly, I don't really care...haha I know I look beautiful in my dress...as long as it isn't too bad, I'm peachy =)
  • You look amazing in that dress! I have yet to get alterations done but its only a bustle and maybe cups sewn in.  I'm hoping around $100-200 for all of it.

  • Whoa! That's a lot of money for a bustle. I had no idea!!! Going to do one for my dress too, I wonder how much it'll cost! Haha.

Oh I think everybody will have some "fat" showing on their back- it's normal. Otherwise the dress would have to be very loose in order for it to not show or you'd need to be a skeleton. I just hope I don't spill all over in the back though! Haha!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!  Also, I don't meant to come off as a total creep, but your bewbs look AWESOME in that dress!

I bet your "back fat" isn't as bad as you probably think it is.  Most people don't notice it anyway.

I'm no help in the bustle department.. mine was included.
