June 2012 Weddings

What song are you playing when...

I know we have had countless threads about what your first dance is and what you are walking down the aisle to, but I'm havin a hard time finding music for these things.  What (if any) music are you playing for the following things:

Seating of Mothers?

Seating of Grandmothers?

Mother/Son dance?

Cake Cutting?

Boquet Toss?

Garter Toss?

  • Seating of Mothers? Seating of Grandmothers? These two will be the same but I'm not exactly sure which song yet. I love "You Raise Me Up" and feel that is very appropriate.

Mother/Son dance? In My Life by The Beatles

Cake Cutting? Eat It by Weird Al

Boquet Toss? Undecided but I'm leaning towards Ladies Night by Kool and the Gang. I really don't want anything overused.

Garter Toss? FI wants Mission Impossible theme song
  • Seating of Mothers?
    Canon in D

    Seating of Grandmothers?

    Seating of Mothers/Grandmothers?
Undecided - Something classical though, we're having a violin and acoustic guitar

    Mother/Son dance?
I don't think FI knows yet...I'm letting him decide

    Cake Cutting?
Not sure, but my friend played going to the chapel right before it and we all loved that!

    Boquet Toss?
I'm hoping to just throw mine as we're having our exit, so we wouldn't have a song.

    Garter Toss?
Trying to convince FI not to do this, so none.

  • Seating of Mothers?
    Mama's Song by Carrie Underwood

    Seating of Grandmothers?
Same as above. My mom's parents are the only grandparents still living.
    Mother/Son dance?
    Not doing one.

    Cake Cutting?
    Whatever the DJ has playing
    Boquet Toss?
    Undecided

    Garter Toss?
    Undecided

  • Seating of Mothers? Whatever the pianist wants to play, I don't care!

Seating of Grandmothers? Same as above.

Mother/Son dance? Don't know if we'll have one. I'm definitely not doing a father-daughter dance!

Cake Cutting? Possibly something by Cake. :)

    Boquet Toss? Not sure yet.

    Garter Toss? Not doing one.

  • No idea about most of those.  I'll leave it up to the DJ.  We are not doing a bouquet or garter toss though.  I think FI is going to dance with his mom to "Simple Man" by Shinedown.  That's his type of music and the lyrics of it are actually pretty deep.  The only reason he may not use it is because we went to a wedding in Nov. where the groom and his mom danced to that.  There will only be a handful of people that were at both weddings though.
  • Mothers & Grandmothers- Rufus Wainwright- Across the Universe or Eva Cassidy- Songbird (from the Love Actually soundtrack). One will be for the moms and one will be for the Bridal party processional but I can't decide. Mother/Son- Michael Buble- Summer Wind (because FI is FMIL's summer baby) We're not doing a cake cutting (we have cupcakes) or bouquet and garter tosses.

[QUOTE]We need to pick songs for all of these?  I had no clue. I think this is one thing I will be skipping.

Same here. I can't even pick a father daughter dance and we can't decide on a first dance song yet.

I think everyone will walk into the theatre to the same song, including me. (Storybook Love from The Princess Bride, acustic version) I may change my mind on this if I find one I like for the WP.

I am hoping we can find a song that works for our father/daughter dance and our mother/son dance and do it together. I found one that is okay, but I don't love it. I can't remeber the name of it at the moment, but Rod Stewart sings it..... About parents always thinking their kids are young..... Help me out ladies! haha

Is the seating of the mothers and grandmothers during the ceremony? I don't think we'll be playing anything special, especially since FI's grandmother just passed away last month.

    As for the others:

Father/Daughter - Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle

Mother/Son dance - Unforgettable by Nat "King" Cole

Cake Cutting - Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's (it's "our" song)

Boquet Toss - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

Garter Toss - Tush by ZZ Top
  • All of the music is still undecided for me.  I guess I have to work on that.

  • Seating of the Mothers/Grandmothers will be something classical on the Organ, we're still looking for the right song.

First Dance will be a tango, hoping our guitarist can play one, or we'll find on CD, so undecided.

No other dances will be done.

Haven't decided on the cake cutting, probably just whatever the guitarist is playing.

    No tosses either.
