DIY Flower Petal Question!

I'm about 3 weeks out from my wedding and am JUST getting on top of the flowers!  Yikes!  Debating whether I should just do the petals myself.  I originally got an estimate from Merriman's (wedding venue) for 2 bags of petals at $60..and after speaking with the florist directly, she said that 2 bags won't really give much coverage.  I'm just afraid that the wind will blow them all away before i'm able to walk the aisle!

I read many people have just gone to costco and petaled the bouquets of roses themselves rather than going through the florist...just wondering about how many bouquets you purchased and how much coverage you got?  I think my aisle will be relatively short..about 3 rows with 4 chairs on each side of the aisle.

    We had about four bags which was considered "light" covering.   Check to see if there is a clean-up fee for petals though, thankfully our coordinator took care of ours, otherwise property charged $100

    Thanks!  I looked through that post as well but i'm having problems guesstimating how many bouquets i'd need. 

    I contacted Maui Florals and they said they don't sell rose petals but recommended that I buy bouquets at Costco and petal them myself.  I just don't know how many to buy..as in how many bags x amount of bouquets would equate to if that makes sense?  They said 18 stems come in 1 bouquet.  I'd like moderate coverage just in case wind is an issue.

    I think I remember another knottie mentioning you can buy rose petals bags from Safeway if you want to go that way.

    But also, I found this calculator and I hope it helps you! It lets you calculate how many petals depending on the length of the aisle and how dense you want it :)

    I also googled how many petals on a rose and says about 10 - 15 petals per rose but it says it depends on the species.

    Yep, that was me!  Safeway has big ol' bags of petals for cheap.  It all depends on how thick you want your coverage, but also get in touch with your coordinator if you have one because someone will have to clean up those petals!  :)

    Awesome thanks for all the info!  Does anyone remember about how much the petals cost at Safeway and how many cups are in there?

    I also found a flower farm called Paradise Flower Farm and they seem to have really good prices on orchid heads!  Has anyone ever heard of them or dealt with them before? 

    I asked the restaurant's coordinator if it was okay to have the petal toss and she had put the petals for the aisle in my originaly estimate..but i'd better double check who's cleaning it up!  I don't want to get stuck sweeping those things afterwards!
