DC marriage License

Does anyone know the logistics of obtaining a marriage license in DC? Do both of us have to be present to apply? How soon in advance before the wedding can we go and obtain it? I live in Charlotte, NC but getting married in DC, so just trying to plan out logistics as to when we should get it done. I'm getting married on October 22nd but wanted to see how soon we could apply for the license, or if there is a such thing as too soon, meaning you have to get married within a certain amount of days after applying?

Here is a link to a step-by-step guide for getting a DC marriage license. It was developed for same-sex couples, but would work for any couple. Unfortunately, both you and your FI must be present to apply for the license, then must again be present to pick up the license a minimum of three business days later. The good news is that a DC marriage license never expires, so you don't have to worry about getting it "too soon."

We had no problem with only one of us being there. H did the whole thing and just took both of our passports. I signed the form before he took it in. He also was able to pick it up himself wihtout any problems.

I also did the whole thing by myself, like AmyJ said...had my fiancee sign the form and I took his passport. Absolutely no issues.
