Finding vendors

Hi.  I'm just engaged, but all this wedding planning stuff seems really overwhelming!  How are you finding vendors?

Re: Finding vendors

  • I love weddings so I've done a lot of reading, researching, and investigating on my own.  I've also made it a point to talk to anyone I knew who got married about their takes on the vendors they used, etc.  Also, I had planned a wedding before that did not happen so I had some exposure to various vendors already.

For my wedding now, II found my vendors through a variety of ways:  1) Word of mouth, 2) Via a wedding planner, 3) www.weddingwire.com, 4) TK (vendor reviews), and The Washingtonian Magazine (Best of Weddings).

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • Also, once you have found one vendor, you can ask for recommendations of others.  They often see each other's work.

Also, depending on the size and type of your event, you may find that vendors other than standard wedding vendors would work for you, save money, and simplify your planning.  For example, you could rent a restaurant (or for a smaller party, the private dining room of a restaurant), and have a brunch, lunch, or dinner wedding there.  Unlike banquet halls, restaurants will typically let you use the space for free if you buy the food and drink from them.  And if you work with a restaurant, you don't have to have separate vendors for linens, plates, chairs, etc.
  • Hey - I also did 1) theknot.com, 2) wedding planner and 3) word of mouth.  Theknot.com and weddingwire helped with vendor reviews.  The wedding planner I used helped with some vendors and day-of coordination.  I also tried looking at the Baltimore board because I found that some of the vendors outside of DC proper are less expensive.
