BRRRR! It's cold in here!

...There must be some Toro's in the atmosphere!  ;-)

Really though, it's so cold in our house!  We heat with wood and since I'm getting ready to leave to see H at work I don't want to start a fire, but holy goodness I'm freezing!

On a semi-related note, H is leaving to go hunting for a week at 5:30 in the morning.  I haven't seen him since Sunday :-(  If I weren't taking dinner out to him tonight I wouldn't see him until next Wed evening.  Thus, I figure I'll make dinner and take it out to him so I get there about the time he normally takes his meal break.

What's going on with everyone else?

    When it starts getting colder, we shut off our second bedroom/office so the rest of the house stays warmer. (Stupid house has no insulation, and is a terror to keep temperate.) But we still go in there occasionally for office supplies and such, and it is COLD! Like as cold as outside (or worse). If we forget to put on a sweatshirt before going in, we get quite the frigid surprise!

    When it gets really cold outside, I simply go into full cooking/baking mode. I usually try to use the oven and once I'm done I turn it off and leave the door open a few inches to let that heat escape and warm up the apartment. Usually it makes the difference of a few degrees. (Then again, we have an apartment with foot-thick brick walls and double paned windows, so it stays pretty warm.)

    FI and I were totally doing that chant when he walked me to my car tonight. Yep. We're awesome. 

    It's strangely warm for MN right now so I have no complaints!

    <div>Thank goodness someone got it!  Funny store, one day I was in the back bedroom and H was doing something in the living room.  All of a sudden heard him in the other room doing the chant, except his version went "...there must be some churros in the atmosphere!"  I about died laughing, then I had to explain what a toro is.</div>

    Not to brag, but it's really nice down here in Sunny South Florida-- anyone want to come visit me?? :D 

    Other than the weather, not much is happening here. School, wedding planning, the usual. I'm ready for Christmas!!! NOW!

    Faith, I was just gonna say "well I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast and I'm not even wearing sweaters every day yet, sooo..."

    FI and I haven't been through a winter in our apartment yet, so we're not sure how it'll go.  We live on the third (top) floor of our building and we have a loft-style apartment.  So the living room is 2 stories high and even at that the ceiling is vaulted.  I think it reaches like 30 feet at the peak.  Since heat rises, all the heat from downstairs gathers into our apartment and the loft gets quite warm.  In August it was unbearable, so I'm hoping it's nice in the winter.  Especially since our apartment has a gas heater (which is unheard of in apartments here, they're almost ALWAYS electric) and we live in an areas with some of the highest natural gas rates in the country.  Which is quite odd considering our warm climate and the fact that there are oil rigs just off shore.

    DH wanted to go watch one of his buddies play hockey last night.  I told him I wanted to go because I wanted to spend time with him, but didn't think about how cold I'd be.  BRR!!  My feet were freezing and I couldn't wait for the game to end!  His buddy's team won though so I guess it was worth it.

    Sessions - I could be wrong but I think natural gas is found in the ground, not refined from oil.  Maybe there is no natural gas near you so they have to transport it in from elsewhere??

    Whenever anyone, including myself, says "it's cold in here", I finish it in my head.

    Our apt got down to 73 last night!  My toes are cold.

    It was 30 when I got in my car this morning! Come Feb I'll be rejoicing that it is 30 but right now it's chilly! 

    I'm trying to convince FI to leave the frozen tundra and move to Denver. I hate winter. 


    And drama I cracked up about the churros!

    I definitely finished that chant in my head before I even opened the post!

    Like FaithCaitlin said, it's pretty nice here in Florida. It has gotten down into the low 40s at night which is pretty crazy for this time of year. My apartment does hold in the cold though, so it's always colder inside than outside!

    I am going to the beach this weekend for my bachelorette party, so I really can't complain too much about the weather :)

    It's not terrible here in MI at the moment (knock on wood...) but you never know what it will do tomorrow.  I can tell that the air is dry, my hands are horrible chapped. I had to buy some super-duper moisturizing hand lotion yesterday.  Ah, winter.

    Wait, 73 degrees is cold in a house? I don't turn the heat on until it gets down to about 63 degrees or so, to save on gas bills. It's 72 in my house right now and I'm hot!

    It's from the movie Bring it On.  It's a cheer the squad does.  Their school mascot is a toro, so the cheer goes "brrrr, it's cold in here, there must be some toros in the atmosphere.  O-e-o-e-o ice ice ice! o-e-o-e-o ice ice ice!"

    I'm going to try to wait until it gets down to 64, but I'm cold at 73.  I actually opened the glass door and a window because it crept up to 75 inside today.  After running the AC all summer, hopefully we'll save some money this winter.

    So, a cold front came through today.  It was pleasant at lunch, and I was shivering by like 6:00 p.m.  I guess that's what I get for bragging about the temp.  :-P  FI and I are experimenting with keeping the heater on about 68.  Which would normally have me FREEZING but this whole living on the top floor thing is working out great for keeping me fairly warm, haha.

    For me it depends on the time of day. We set our heater to 70 at night (plus a space heater so the bedroom isn't freezing), and 68 or less during the day. When it's sunny outside, it feels warm inside even at 68. But in the evenings, we like to kick it up to about 72 for a burst of warmth before bed. I don't do very well with cold, but I'm kinda cheap with the electric bill. :P
    Note: we didn't turn the heat on until the night it was 38 degrees outside. We need to put film over the windows to keep the heat in better soon.

    Holy moly, you all keep your houses really warm!  When we use the furnace, we keep it at 64 or 65 unless we're having people over.  When we're gone or sleeping we bump it down to 58.

    This is how it was at my parents house. And then I'd go to my grandparents or even my great grandma's apartment and die because it was sooo hot. In fact, when I went to go stay with my grandparents, I would bring a box fan and put it in the window at night because it was so freakin hot in there.

    We don't have central air. We have baseboard heat that we can't really control very well. We're trying to see how long we can go without turning it on...so far, my feet are the coldest. Heh.

    Yeah I'm used to growing up with my dad who was so conscious about saving on the electric bill so he would get pissed if we turned the thermostat over 65. And if anyone was wondering, it gets a little COLD here in the winter, haha. So I got really used to just wearing lots of layers around the house and lots of blankets at night. Now that I'm paying my own bills, I'm the same way.
