Bay Area Bride with June 2010 wedding?

Ring on my finger at last!
I'm planning to get married the second or third Sunday in June. I'm looking for another June bride who would like to get married the same weekend, but on Saturday. Let's double our negotiation power with hotels! We can share costs for decorations and lighting. We can get bulk discounts on favors. We can pool our contacts and resources. We can cut the environmental impact of our weddings in half. I'm planning to have around 80 guests and I'd like to host everything in a nice elegant hotel in the bay area. Somebody reading this will know another June bride. Please forward this along to her!

BTW, Congrats!

-Susan.

Susan, first off, congrats on the engagement and welcome to the boards! I'm another Bay Area June bride and I think there are only a couple of us here.

I'm not sure how much research you've done about hotels, but a lot of places require you to clear out within a few hours of the end of your reception and they won't let you leave decorations up overnight.
Lighting wise (I'm assuming you're talking about uplighting, etc), most companies will take their equiptment home and it'll cost you the same price as renting them on your own.
Favors- if you do some sort of food or candy, you can normally buy in bulk already. You can also check the trash to treasure board for brides with leftover favors.
This is a forum where we already share tips and recommendations about vendors. I know that half of my vendors came reccomended by ladies here and they're awesome. We'd all be more than happy to share with you.

One last thing, June is less than 5 months away... Most hotels book over a year in advance (at 14 months, I ran into problems). If you want to get married this June, you might have to compromise and realize that your first choices may not be available. Good luck!

one more thing. if you're trying to keep costs down, you're on the right track with a sunday wedding. but to knock it down even more, i'd get out of the month of june. how about july or august? or even late may?

    Congrats on your engagement Susan!

    Ditto everything PP said.

Finding a nice hotel with a Saturday/Sunday opening for this June could be tricky, unless you look at places that don't do weddings very often.  June is prime wedding season and many places are probably already booked.

On the bright side, by having your wedding on Sunday, there are much more likely to be places with openings as that is a much less popular day of the week.  I suggest you just start looking at venues for your own wedding, rather than trying to team up with someone (the Saturday wedding may really limit what you can find for your own wedding).  Also, one pro about aiming for June is that since it is getting fairly close to then, that may give you more bargaining power in and of itself - if a venue has an open Sunday, at this point, it is less likely that people will be looking to book it now, so that may give you more bargaining power.  But, like PP, you may need to be flexible and look for a later month if nothing is available.

And PP is right about the decorations/lighting etc - while it's fantastic that you want to reduce environmental impact, depending on the venue you end up finding, it might just not be feasible in those particular ways.

@future mrs.riva - Hi date twin!  I'm 6/12/2010 in Daly City.  :)  (not many June brides on this board it seems!)

Ditto both previous posters. If you're flexible and willing to compromise on some things, I think your June wedding could be pulled off. But I think a lot of June brides have done so much planning already that "teaming up" would be difficult to find.

If you are really trying to save, I'd ditch the favors and the unnecessary decorations. I'd also check out the "trash to treasure" board, craigslist, or find a location that is all-inclusive.

P.S. @toshecky-I'm a June bride too. I agree, it doesn't seem like their are too many of us on this board.

My wedding is June 26th. I mostly lurk on the June '10 boards (I was around more when they did the first round of KOTD), but every now and then I make a comment or two. There are just so many people on that board, that I lose track of people and give up for a while.

i remember you posting! i agree, there are a ton of people, but i have to admit our local died down for a while. maybe we can bring it back. :)

i think you have a date twin on here- feisty something?

I was lurking on the June board for awhile, but it was getting to be too much to keep up with.  I like to procrastinate at work, but trying to keep up with the June board was just tooooo distracting.  :::sigh:::  I also feel waaaay behind compared to most everyone on there.  Still need to take care of officiant, dj, florist, cake, invites,....  eek.

Yeah the local got super duper slow!  But hopefully it's on its way back.  I'm gonna need more recs from the Nor Cal ladies! haha (florist anyone???)

And future mrs.riva, I think you're right - I want to say it's feistytobe or something like that who is adgenya's date twin

toshecky, i can give you a rec for a florist. im using mystic gardens in sf. they're on ocean between junipero serra & 19th. they seem really reasonably priced compared to the other shops i looked into. ~$100 for my bouquet, $55 for BMs, bouts/corsages are ~$8 each, centerpieces ~$30-40. i can vouch for her quality, too- she does all the proms for the schools in the area. lol. :)

Thank you guys for your advice. The Sunday wedding is actually more of a jewish tradition for my fiancé. Everyone will fly in for the weekend so I'll plan an outing for Saturday before the rehearsal and dinner. Also, I don't have time to book a year in advance because a close family member is going to Afganistan in July and will be there for the next few years before (hopefully) coming home. I just got engaged about 8 days ago, so I'm moving as fast as I can.

Some good news: I actually haven't talked to a venue yet that didn't have my preferred dates available, so my options are wide open. Also, there seem to be plenty of options for my hotel block of rooms. I think I want to stay away from the city and stay closer to home in Palo Alto. There are so many lovely things in the city, but I can't stand the parking madness. I am finding the hotel menus boring though. I'm really starting to want my own caterer.

Thank you again for your advice and warm welcome.

susan, im glad you're finding that your preferred dates are open. the hotel menus can be pretty standard. try talking to the catering manager to see if they can work with you to create something different. :) good luck with the rest of your planning! hope to see you around the forums.

I moved my wedding date to March to save money too. June i learned was very expensive. I found a great Deal and figured I would let you know. I hired my DJ for $600 for 4 hours. I got his brochure in the mail and gave him a call. I met with him and after only 5 mins i knew i was going to hire him. Very professional guy with a lot of experience but wasnt like any of the other kiind of djs i had met. He accually is a club DJ and that was more what I wanted. His DJ name is DJ The Riz from TRP Entertainment I went to a Club in San Ramon, Ca that he djed and couldn't believe how he had the dance floor packed from 8pm till 1am. He played music from the 70s to the hottest songs on the radio now. Me and my fiance have gone a couple more times to the club to see him play. Can't wait till my wedding in 54 days.

And his company added a photo booth service for wedding last year and we hired him for that too. it was only 495

TRP Entertainment 209-832-0829 is his contact info. his name is Scott Rizzo

good luck and let him know you got his name from me!
