Looking into invites.....what a pain!

So I've been looking into invites for our Sept wedding. Our budget for them is $300. Yeah.... wow.... have you seen some of these prices !? I like the pocketfold ones,which I know are more money.... I went to the bridal shop where I bought my dress,and they DO NOT offer a discount on the invites because I only got my dress there and nothing else.... which I think is a little much....anyway.... Ive also been looking online as well,some good some bad . Etsy I think has some good deals, anyone else ordering them from etsy? And whats everyones budget ?

My budget was around $300 for pocketfolds. I went on etsy and found a graphic designer to help and made them myself and I can tell you $300 was not nearly enough. Postage for those suckers was $1.08 each! I paid the graphic designer $100 to design all the paper for my wedding (STDs, invites with all the inserts, belly bands, thank you, return address, menu, programs, etc), bought all the paper myself, printed and cut cut everything myself.

Honestly I wish I just spent the $ and had someone else do them, because in the end it did cost quite a bit anyway.

Did you check out Vistaprint yet? I'm not sure how detailed your cards need to be, but check out Vistaprint. They often have sales and wedding invitations dont end up being that expensive... i believe, you can also upload your own design for wedding invitations on that site.

I agree with you on the invites, I don't want to spend a whole heck of alot on something the majority of my guests are going to throw in the trash. Pocket fold invites are more, I think. I orginally wanted pocket folds too but I don't want to spend that kind of money so I starting looking at regular invites and they have some very pretty one out there and I agree with tdmaus check out Vista print. Here is an example of an invite that I liked, I think it simple and classic but it isn't a pocket fold and its under $2.00:

I used a local graphic designer and got my invites and response cards and envelopes for both for the $300 range. We had a carnival themed wedding and she was great and coming up with ideas and making changes. I loved our invites but they did not have pocketfolds and I'm not certain whether she does them or not. She can also copy any design that you give her if you have something in mind but it was more expensive somewhere else. Again, I loved her. http://www.extraordinarypartiesanddesign.com/

Check out paper source on (I always forget...17th and Walnut, maybe?). Anyway, it's somewhere near Rittenhouse.

You can either buy all the materials to make your own, (they have examples on their website), or have them make them up for you.

I made my own, the colonial stencil invites on *this* page. I got the ink and stamps, save the dates, std envelopes, invitations, inner and outer envelopes, rsvp cards and envelopes, for about $120 (for 60 of each). Plus, I have some materials left over that I'm using for table numbers, etc.

I looked at some invites on ETSY , I do think some of them are good deals. I also looked at invites from the bridal shop (where I bought my gown) yeha they were $1300.00 there, needless to say that put me in panic mode. I'll have to check out some of these places.... The wedding isnt till Sept 14th. When should I order them by ?

If you don't mind going to the shore, I'm getting mine from Christina's Butterfly Creations in Ocean City. I wanted pocketfolds but didn't really want to DIY. I went to three places in the area (Papery in Old City, Paper Source in Ardmore, and the other stationary store in Suburban Square), and was quoted upward of $2000. Christina's is doing the invitation suite (pocketfold, invitation and 3 enclosures + all printed addresses necessary) for just under $1000 for 125 invitations. Taking off the pockets, assembly, and address printing, it'd be much closer to your budget.

As for timing, I'm not the one to ask. I'm placing my order this week and my wedding is in less than 4 months. But I think I'm somewhat behind schedule on that front. You could safely wait a few more months if you wanted.

not sure which bridal shops y'all are looking at but beware places that are 'all inclusive' (I'm not talkng venues here) We priced a lot of different places to see what the costs would be if we bought everything there vs. contracting it out or doing it ourselves, seems somewhere along the way SOMETHING was super expensive, so if it seemed like you got a great deal on one thing they made it up somewhere else. Not saying this is against the law or anything, just shop around if you're trying to save money. And if it wasn't super expensive the quality went way down. If I'm going to have poor quality invites I might as well do them myself and have an excuse for it! (my clumsy thumbs are notorious in our family!)

I went the cheap route and bought mine at Michaels Craft Store. They are DIY and have a HUGE selection in just about every color combination. The larger sets come with everything you need and they cost $40 for 40 invites. And what is great is that in every bridal magazine there are coupons for the store and they have sales on themso youcan really catch a great deal!

</div><div>I bought mine from Michaels also. I paid $19 for 100 invites w/o the rsvp cards. They have the matching rsvp cards at Walmart. They don't have any design. I am planning on dressing the invite up by attaching them to cardstock in my wedding colors and stacking the rsvp card on top of the invitation and securing the invite and rsvp card with a belly band with the monogram I designed.</div>
