Restaurants in Denton/Lewisville area

Are there any BBQ, Italian or Steakhouses you guys recommend in the Denton/Lewisville area that are really good? Nic & I will be in town on the 14th to speak with Ashton Gardens, and we were hoping to find some place somewhat close to the hotel (Homewood Suites - Corinth) that is nice. Also, hoping that it could potentially be also used to have the rehearsal dinner at.

We know our wedding isn't for a couple of years but I currently live 800 miles from DFW & Nic lives 200 miles from DFW so when we are in town, we're trying to cram as much wedding related stuff into the visit as we can since we don't live locally and can't pop in whenever we want.

Try out Don Camilo's. It's pretty good although the service has been spotty for us. We also like Angelina's. Both are in the same shopping center in Corinth near the NCTC building.

Cool. Just glancing at Don Camilo's made my mouth water! Mexican food is definitely a NEGATIVE. I have medical issues that does not mix with mexican food at all - unless I order from the kids menu and get chicken fingers. Lol

There is a BBQ place called "Chasin' Tail" but I wouldn't want to put that on an invitation.

OP, how much are you looking to spend per person? Just want to double check since most "decent" steakhouses will set you back $30-40 pp (ie The Grotto).

BBQ- there is a place called The Fat Cow and it's DELICIOUS. Unfortunately they are a very small operation right now so you could not host your RD there, but I'm willing to bet they cater if that's an option for you. You can look up their reviews on Yelp.com

As far as the steakhouses, I'd like to stay at under $30 per person, preferably. I didn't even think of catering. Hmmm. I guess that's something I should ask the hotel about for one of their rooms? The only person that lives in the local area is one of my BMs that lives in Allen, and I'm not going to ask her to open her house; that's kinda rude. Is catering for something like a RD typically cheaper than a restaurant?

FI would be like, "Let's just take everyone to McDonald's and they can each order 3 things each off the $1 menu." Though he always threatened he was going to propose at the drive-thru there. Heh.

I think any reputable "steakhouse" would be well over your budget per person. I would think something more along the lines of Texas Roadhouse, Outback, Love & War, etc would be more in-budget, but those are not what you would traditionally define as a "steakhouse" though they all do offer steaks I believe.

Catering could possibly be cheaper depending on what your options are. If you are able to host the RD at a facility that does not charge (like a hotel meeting room perhaps) and you have BBQ, that would probably be cheaper than hosting a dinner at Outback or Texas Roadhouse. I would just come up with a list of options that appeal to you, touch base with those facilities and get some pricing, and then compare your options and choose the one that most closely fits your budget and your tastes.

FI's parents are paying for our RD. We have a VERY laidback crowd and it will be mostly family, so honestly we were fine with just having BBQ catered to my parents' house. FMIL I think has her mindset on something more fancy and costly though, so we'll see what happens!

FI and I are doing our's at Giuseppes in Denton, since that's where we had our first date.

They aren't anything extra-special as far as the food is concerned (although it's good), but it's in a quaint old home and is just a cute, cozy place to be!

Italian:

Have you thought about Highland Village? There is Patrizio's in highland village which has amazing italian food and has a beautiful atmosphere. I think they even have packages which would fit in your budget. (clicky)

I used to live in Corinth and I could never get enough of Genti's Pizza and Pasta. Steakhouse:

There is Texas Land & Cattle in Corinth. Not the most amazing, but it is a little nicer than other places around and it's a bit of a "destination" (when we take to our clients to TL&C for work, they always love it).

Steakhouse/burgers:
In Denton, there is the Love Shack, (clicky) which has a pretty cool atmosphere. Their specialty is burgers and it's by Chef Tim Love (Lonesome Dove, etc.)

BBQ:

For bbq, as dowdy as it is, I would say Rudy's in Denton. Everyone loves Rudy's, and they have a huge restaurant.

A Little bit of everything:

Greenhouse in Denton has a huge variety of foods and a private room: (clicky)

Last I would recommend is Sweetwater in Denton. It is off the square. (clicky)

It's a shame you can't do mexican(although I completely understand), El Guapo's is pretty much a Denton institution.

Awesome suggestions! I didn't realize that Rudy's was a chain! They have like 3 locations in Austin - that will make it easy to try out anytime I'm in town.

Angelsong, I'm pretty sure that FI & I will be having to cover the RD too (as we're paying for the wedding and everything else). With that being said....stupid question...

Is the RD for wedding party and their spouses? Does it include our attendants too?

Yes, Rudy's is a chain. I first went there in Lubbock when I was at TTU (they were not in the DFW area yet). The one in Denton is great and we've always enjoyed our food there. Unfortunately, the one in Frisco is awful.

LOVE me some Rudy's, so that makes me sad.

I can second Patrizio's. I have not been to the one in HV but the one in Plano is fantastic as well.

The RD attendees -- I'm not the go-to person on that LOL. From what I know, it's usually WP and spouses. Some people also include close family and OOT guests.

I agree with pp- usually it is wp and their spouses/significant other (and kids if necessary). It is optional to have OOT guests- we ended up having immediate family and close Aunts/Uncles/Cousins. Also, we are extending this to our officiant and her spouse. Ours ended up being around 40 people, but I have seen RDs larger and smaller. Just depends.

I don't know. I always thought WP was BMs/GMs, bride (and parents), groom (and parents) & FG/RB's parents (but we don't have a FG/RB). But that is why I'm asking.....

For a lot of weddings, the groomsmen are also the ushers. Sometimes, you have separate people for those roles. Our church required us to have 4 ushers that were not also members of the wedding party.

For the RD, I think it's generally considered appropriate to invite anyone that has a role in your wedding -- including BM, GM, parents, grandparents, ushers, readers, officiant, FG, RB, FG and RB parents, and anyone else who is more than just a guest (i.e., listed in the program or walking down the aisle).

You can invite wedding guests too (i.e., close family or all OOT guests, like PP said, but that's strictly up to your personal preference. I don't believe there's an etiquette on that.

Oh, okay. We counted bridesmaids, groomsmen, houseparty, and ushers all as wedding party and all are invited to the rehearsal dinner. If they need to be at the rehearsal, I'm going to feed them.

For FI's family, RDs are a HUGE ordeal. We're inviting I think 80 people, including wedding party, family, and our priest and eucharistic minister. I will echo the sentiment that it is nice to invite people who are travelling from out of town, but if we'd done that, we basically would have invited all our wedding guests.

My DH does not like Genti's--he had something with artichokes and said they had obviously come from a can.

Everyone raves about Patrizio's but we tried to go there at 6 PM on a Wednesday and they weren't open. We walk by an hour later and it's jumpin'. I couldn't find hours or anything. Very odd.

The Love and War though is down in Grapevine (I think there's one in Frisco too) but that's going to be a little far from where you guys are going to be rehearsing, at least in my opinion.
