"The Pros"???

So my FI found this website called ThePros.com.  They claim to do photography, videography and DJ for only $1995.  I am highly skeptical.  Anyone heard anything about them?

We should elaborate.... you should really not hire companies that are all in one. You would get better quality with a company that specializes in one thing.

but the pros are really bad. They stalk you.
  • edited December 2011
They stalk you until they get your money and you have some complaints/concerns that you want them to address. Then they ignore you.

OMG, they're on a mission!  Isn't the second post in a couple of weeks?  (No offense to you, ChadAngela).  Ditto everything PP said. RUN!  Once they get ur info, you won't stop hearing from then until your 3rd child is delivered.  And then, they might want to video your labor and do family portraits.  Ok, I'm exaggerating, but look elsewhere.  We can help if you need suggestions :)

Stacy - I was just thinking that we could use a permament sticky post about The Pros.  (though I know a few people on here have positive reviews....)

I think I have heard 1 positive review my 14 months on TK. But it maybe vendor bashing? What if we put it on the phillyblog?
  • edited December 2011
That's true, it could be against the rules and considered vendor bashing.  I guess it'll be like the Getting in Shape board that has to persuade people away from diet pills at least three times a week.

ChadAngela - if you are interested, post what you're looking for and an approximate budget, you'll get a lot of great suggestions for video, dj and photography!

Wow! Thanks, ladies.  I got a bad feeling when I saw the price...but you know how FIs are sometimes.  I think I will let him contact them and meet with them to experience the madness first hand.  Then maybe next time he'll listen to my opinion...

Caraellen, I've been watching the DE boards (where we'll be getting married) and have found some, in my opinion, good recommendations about price and vendors.  Only problem is, my FI wants to do his own research, doesn't listen to me about consulting the knot and comes up with people like The Pros...sigh.  Like I said in my previous post, maybe on this one I'll just hang back and let him deal with it on his own until he finds out what sort of calibre company he's dealing with.

I just said that b/c I got emails from them for the longest time.  I probably still do but they go to my junk box and I don't even scan that anymore.  I must have filled out something when we first got engaged (prob before I found TK).

Run, as fast as you can, and don't look back.

The problem with the Pros is that they don't hire professional, decent photographers, and they don't pay them enough and what they do pay is a flat rate- so there is no incentive to do good, decent work.  I have heard so so so many times of weddings where the photog (and video guy, too) sat around and did absolutely nothing, and the few shots they got were of backs of heads, or blinding light shots, that type of thing.  And since you can't pick your photog (regardless of what they say- they are famous for saying you can, you pick the one you want, and then a few days before telling you that that person is unavailable and assigning you someone new), you have no guarantee of work or professionalism.

And ditto on the emails.  They get ahold of your email, they sell it to third parties, and they never stop emailing you-even if you ask.  It almost borders on harrassment.

Also, apply this to any large photography corp- including Bella Photography and the one that David's Bridal deals with (LJM or something like that?  Any help, anyone?).

Honestly, I would take this out of your FI's hands- my fear is they will use their con tactics on him and he will end up booking, and forever regretting it.  Take charge when it comes to this, because I really don't want to see you disappointed with your service the day of and your photos of your only wedding day.

Don't even think about using them. That's all I have to say about that.

A friend of mine used them over the summer for a wedding after I had worked hard to steer her elsewhere.  She seems reasobaly happy with her photos, but to be perfectly honest, I could have taken the same shots with a few hours' training on how to use a DSLR camera.  Assuming she paid what you did...the product she got was not worth that investment.  You can do a lot better!

PS If you really want your FH to find out for himself, make sure you give out his phone number and e-mail...and let the fun begin.

Yea I think we should put something on the blog about The Pros.  I think some people might be happy with them but I have only heard a few times people say they were good. But like MBR said, they don't hire PROS.... my photog wanted to see how easy it was to work for them so she called and lied and said she has a good camera but was not a professional and they said oh that's ok, you can just go to X location at X time.... she was floored.

Just look at the link in my siggy for the blog and check out all of the photogs all of the girls have used here.

ChadAngela - I would only recommend letting your FI meet with them if he's really saavy enough to smell something rotten.  If he's the type that will be woo'd by slick sales pitches and pretty pictures (which won't be the ones you end up with), then I might worry that he'll sign over your mortgage before you can stop him.

My hubby really wanted to do a lot of research for photography, video and the band.  I helped him out by giving him places and people to look into, but then he was the one checking them out and contacting them for meetings.  Maybe you can give your FI a list of"knot approved" for him to check out?

We went to one of their 'bridal events' or whatever they call it, to be fair their DJs really did sound decent.  But we were very underwhelmed by the photographers (No personality! If THEY have no personality why would I expect them to be creative artists?)  One of the videographers was ok, but again not overwhelmed.  Did anyone have any experience w/their DJs?

My FI and I are on a tight budget but we are not skimping on the photography/videography. We're actually downgrading our honeymoon to get the absolute best photographers. We just can't risk it- the photos/video are ALL you have after the big day to relive it! My cousin got married 2 years ago and she said the best thing was that they splurged and hired 2 photographers and 2 videographers. The day went so fast for them and afterwards they sat down and relived practicallly every moment!! It was priceless to them.

Also, Bella, Main Line studios, and the Pros seem so shady. A photographer at Main Line actually admitted to me that she's a part time accountant on the side, and she'd put together my wedding album ONLINE just 2 weeks after my big day. That's professional service??? So yeah, I'd run. I'm checking out Faith West- I know she's in high demand and is $$ but I feel you can trust a studio like hers.

Well, happily I was able to sway my FI with the force of you ladies' arguments.  He said he's not even gonna bother calling.  YAY!  And, tonight, he went through and looked at all the photogs and videos I had so far found recommended on here and gave me his opinion.  What a wonderful man!!!!
