Help with invitations

Okay, everywhere says to use a calligrapher or hand write your own outer envelopes.  Would using clear labels with a font that matches the invites be considered tacky?  Also, do I have to address the inner envelope?  I don't understand why they both need to be addressed.  The invites are clean and modern style, if that helps.  HELP!

I don't think you should use labels, but some people don't seem to mind. I think if you're going to use labels, and your invites are modern, wrap-around labels are functional and stylish.
I hired a calligrapher to do my envelopes and it was $1 an outer and .25 cents for each inner, so it can be totally reasonable.

Yes, inner envelopes should be addressed. Just Mr. and Mrs. Smith goes on them, and any children's names if they're being invited.

Etiquette wise, invites should be hand written on the outside and inside envelopes. My mom insisted they be handwritten and she has beautiful handwriting so i said fine- you do it because i didnt want to shell out the extra cash for a calligrapher

But nowadays i dont know that people really mind much, to each his own. My wedding was formal so we followed suit with the invites.  I think if you could find a way to have the addresses printed on the envelopes versus labels would be less "tacky" for lack of a better word.  IMHO i dont find labels to be tacky :)

I know the more proper way is to have it handwritten but I plan on using labels or printing on the envelopes.  I've known people who have had trouble with their Caligraphers.  I think espsecially if you are having a modern style invite that will look very nice if you match the type.

i didn't feel like writing them ( i did do it for a friend's wedding) and so I used Word and printed everything on the envelopes...both outer and inner...everyone LOVED it...

We used Carlson Craft invitations. They printed our return address on the outer envelopes and RSVP envelopes. We then found the same font in Word and printed the guest addresses onto the envelopes. It looked nice and matched what Carlson Craft had already done.

I plan on handwriting the addresses on the outer and names inner envelopes, however I purchased an address stamp in the same font for the return address and for the rsvp envelopes.  I ordered it from Etsy.com and bought ink at Michael's that matched the color font on the invites.  That will save me some time and it's not as tacky has just putting an address label on the envelopes.
