Satin vs Chiffon Bridesmaids dresses

Ok ladies, I need some help. So I have two bridemaids are pregnant, and I was thinking about putting them in Chiffon dresses. The problem is I haven't found a Chiffon dress that looks good for everyone else. Would it be ok to put the pregnant ladies in Chiffon and everyone else in Satin?

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

  • I like that idea. I think it would look really nice and it makes sense because pregnant and satin don't exactlly go well.

  • When I went MOH dress shopping with my sister, the consultant warned me that chiffon and satin photograph differently.  One shows up much darker than the other (I think chiffon is darker, but I can't remember).  As long as that doesn't bother you, I think your plan is fine!

  • Agreed with previous post, chiffon and satin do photography completely different and personally I don't think it looks nice so I wouldn't do it.

Why not go with a jersey dress? You can do one of those infinity/convertible ones.

  • I was advised to keep all the girls in the same fabric because the same color in chiffon will look totally different in satin.

I was the maid of honor in a wedding where we all picked satin dresses and chiffon jackets. The samples we tried on were not the colors we were ordering and we didn't realize how different they would look. When we got them the colors looked entirely different. Our bride ended up asking that we not wear the jackets in the pictures because of it.

I had a similar situation and someone recommended that I choose different shades of the same color for my bridesmaids. Like an ombre effect. The fabric makes little difference then.

<div>What designer/company are you using? How many other bridesmaids do you have?</div>
  •  Thanks ladies, I knew it may be kinda far fetched. I'm thinking I may just need to do all Chiffon. Total there will be 7 bridesmaids, and I thinking it may be David's Bridal.

My BMs and MOH are all in chiffon. Bill Levkoff is the designer, they each picked their own style, they had a lot to pick from and each found one that was flattering on them. A lot of bridal party websites will let you sort by fabric type.  Each dress was $175 though, not sure if that's in your price range.
  • My BMs are all in Alfred Angelo Chiffon. They each picked/picking a style that flatters them best. I think they have maternity options as well.

Nothing wrong with that. It is like I am trying to find Chiffon dresses for my bridesmaids since I am getting married in June. Plus my moh is trying to get pregnant.

  • I wouldn't do that... best to find another alternative.
  • My main girls are wearing floor length chiffon & my two Jrs are wearing mini-skirt length taffeta.  Yes, the colors are slightly different - but I don't care since the styles are completely different.  The Jrs dresses have a black chiffon-y/netting matterial rouched over the top half of the dress - so very different. I didn't want my Jrs (who will be 16 & 13 for the wedding) in a full length gown.  Chiffon is very forgiving.  I have a variety of sizes in my bp - from a 5'10" model skinny girl to a 5'9" 220 lb girl.  I went with chiffon so everyone would feel good about themselves.  Here is how the two dresses vary in color based on material.
