Ivory or White?

Hi there! So I went wedding dress shopping over the weekend and have found THE dress for me. :) I'm super excited that I was able to find it on my 2nd time shopping. The only debate I have is the color. The dress I tried on was in ivory which was really pretty and complimented my skin tone. However, I always thought of myself wearing a white-colored dress with no tint to it. The dress can come in either color. The white would be a bright white color which in all honest opinions from everyone, I can pull that color off too with my tan skin. (Sorry no pix available) And our wedding is next summer so I will be keeping the tan..

So question is what color did you have for your wedding dress??

I'll be wearing Ivory.  But I'm SUPER pale, and white/white looks horrible on me.

You should wear whatever color you want and/or looks good on you.  If you want a white dress (and think you can pull it off), go with the white!

i'm a traditionalist, and like white dresses. and if it looks good on you, and you've always imagined it, then go for it.

I look horrible in white and did not want a white or ivory dress.  I am probably one of the rare few who through tradition out the window and am walking in an all black bridal gown.

What type of fabric is it?

I only ask because I always wanted a white dress, and the one I tried on was ivory. I ended up going with the ivory, because in all honesty, you couldnt tell that it wasnt white. we put my step-moms white shirt up to it and it looked identical. in fact, the store thought it was diamond white instead of ivory.

they explained to me that different fabrics take the dye differently. My dress was made of a certain type of chiffon, which didnt take the "yellow-ness" of the ivory like taffeta or satin does. in all my pictures from our wedding, you cannot tell i'm wearing an ivory dress.

if you've been set on wearnig a white dress and know you can pull off the color, then do it. is it an option to try on another dress, in white, in the same fabric?? i woudl try that...

I have darker skin, so white was TOO white, but diamond white was perfect :) It's whatever works best for you :)

Aw thanks for all of the responses!! I'm still a lil torn but overall I'll just have to go back and try on the dress again ivory and a dress that's in the white so I can compare closer. Honestly when I tried on the ivory dress , I thought it had some kind of tint to it until we brought it out to the daylight then it looked white to us. And the details of the dress looked nicer in ivory. I never thought picking the color of the dress would be this hard!

@Jamers - the fabric on the dress is taffeta. :)

They have a sample of the one you want in ivory, right? I would say put that one back on and then try a white taffeta dress by the same designer to see which color you like best on you.

I'm really tan, and white just didn't work for me. I wore ivory, and still felt it was too light. If I could do it again, I'd go for more of a champagne color, as my dress was available in it.

I liked ivory over white(even though you really couldnt tell) and I am naturally tan. I think the stark or diamond white is a little bright for me. Depending on the materal too though. Mine is lace and I think my dress looks "soft and romantic" which was more of the look I wanted.
