invited to shower and not wedding! UGH

I had my shower about two weeks ago, and I finished up my thank you cards last week. One lady who watched me grow up from church gave me a $50 gc to BBB. I wrote out the card and yesterday I went to write the addresses on the envelopes and realized I didn't have her on our guest list. My mom invited her to the shower even though she wasn't invited to the wedding!
I pretty much have to invite her to the wedding now, she gave me such a big gift I feel obligated. She's really old (grandparent's friend) and chances are she won't come, but I want her to come since she has known me all my life.
Would it be weird/obvious if I send her an invite and thank you note on the same day? It's really late for invites, how bad would that look?
My mom said she doesn't think the lady expects an invite, and wouldn't be hurt if she didn't get one, but again, I feel bad!
How would you girls handle this?

Re: invited to shower and not wedding! UGH

  • I'd send an invitation ASAP (today preferrably).  Regardless of whether or not she's expecting one it would be appreciated and she is clearly important to you (plus the whole etiquette thing).  It may be obvious, maybe not.  I think it'll be the thought that counts.  Plus, people know that sometimes these things happen.  FMIL gave us our first gust list in May 2011.  Just last week she realize she forgot her youngest brother on the list even though she's looked at it 100 times since.  Oversights happen.  I would definitely invite her though.
  • I would definitely send out the invite ASAP.  If I were you, I would hold onto the thank you card for a couple days so they don't come on the same day.  That way it isn't SUPER obvious.
  • Actually, I'd mail them on the same day but I'd send a note with the invitation. Has your RSVP date passed? Or is really close? I'd just include a note saying that you apologize and that the invite, I dunno, fell inside a couch cushin or something.
