Toasts Required?

My MOH(along with the rest of my BMs) are all really uncomfortable with public speaking. I don't want my MOH to not enjoy the day because is she anxious about giving a toast. Would it be weird to not have any toasts at all? Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Toasts Required?

  • It is totally ok not to have a toast.  In fact, you shouldn't ask anyone to toast in your honor, it's kind of like asking for a gift.  If someone offers, great, but if not I doubt anyone will notice.  My dad was the only one to give a toast at our wedding.

  • Not weird, and definitely not a problem!

    Nope, not weird.

But you and your FI will probably at some point want to make a speech to thank your guests for coming.  And parents often want to say something about their son/daughter growing up and/or welcoming their new SIL/DIL into their family.  That being said, if anyone doesn't want to they shouldn't be forced into doing one.
  • Not weird at all.  Unless anyone mentions wanting to do a toast, we aren't planning to have them.

  • While I appreciate a good speech, I would rather appreciate enjoying dinner than watch a struggling/anxious MOH mumble and say "um" a lot. Toasts aren't required, don't worry about it

ugh I have sat through some BAD speeches before, and I agree better to skip than to force toasts and make everyone uncomfortable.
