hi! I'm getting married October 16, and just found out that my fiance's siblings are paying for our honeymoon as their wedding gift. However, his sister seems to think a cruise or somewhere out of the country is the best option, but I'd rather stay at a bed and breakfast in-state. (Plus I'd feel like I was taking advantage of their gift if we had an expensive honeymoon, not to mention I don't think my fiance and I can both take off work long enough for a cruise) I'm a fairly shy person and not always good at talking about things like this, so any advice would be great!

    Wow, it would be hard for me to turn down a cruise. I say take it and get them a great thank you gift. There are 5 and 6 day cruises that you could take and you'd only need a week off of work (totally acceptable for your honeymoon!)

    If it was their idea then I do not think it is taking advantage of them. Like she said ther are some 5 day cruises. But if you both would rahtehr stay in state. Just tell them what you wrote here. It sounds genuine. Or have FI talk to them.

    If they offered to pay and suggested a cruise, I'm sure they didn't suggest something out of the price range they are comfortable with, so if you and your FI both want to do it/ could take time off, don't feel bad! 

    BUT, if you two are not cruise people and would definitely rather do a B&B honeymoon somewhere closer, that is perfectly fine too!  You should discuss that with them sooner rather than later, though.  Since it's your FI's siblings, would he feel more comfortable bringing up your preferences with them?  Believe me, they won't be upset hearing about what you really want to do, this wonderful present means they want to do whatever makes you two happiest!

    Just have your FI talk to them. And like everyone else has said, they wouldn't have mentioned it had the cruise not been too much. You def won't be taking advantage.

    I've been on a 3 night cruise before, actually.

    That said, I'm going to a B&B for my honeymoon!

    Perhaps give them a few ideas of what you would like at a few different price points and then they can give you what they feel comfortable paying, and you get a HM you will enjoy.  It's a win-win situation.
