Groom's Gift?

I am at a little bit of a loss for what to get FI for groom's gift. Last year after we got engaged I bought him a really nice watch as an engagement present as my ring was a huge gift for me.

So a watch is out. And I really can't see him being excited about cuff links. Not sure what other options are? What are you girls getting FI? Or if you are already married what did you get your husband?

Quite frankly the bride and groom gift seem a little overkill with all of the wedding expenses! So this is tricky for me! TIA!

Re: Groom's Gift?

  • Upon asking my FI what he is going to get me, he had no idea of this "requirement" and stated "isnt my marrying you enough?"  lol  So I dont expect anything in return and am okay with that.   I told him that the shed he wants for the house can be his gift.
  • I'm with you, after we got engaged I bought my fi a gift that I knew he would love.  I thought since I got an expensive ring why not..  Honestly, I don't plan on getting him a groom's gift, he even told me not to.   That is as long as we can incorporate his 4 "big ideas" into the wedding.  And his big ideas are not that big very cute and classy, so we will be able to do it nicely.   I know a couple of his friends who are married have told him about grooms cake, which they all had, so I might do one of those for him b/c he really seems into the idea.  Plus, we are paying for the wedding ourselves so an extravagant gift would set me over budget, lol.

  • I agree that groom's gifts aren't really necessary, and I wasn't planning on getting FI anything until we started our registry. - He really wants a Jimmy Buffett frozen concoction maker and I vetoed putting it on the registry because it's kind of expensive and it seemed just kind of silly to put on a registry. I felt kind of bad about it so I decided I want to surprise him with it as my wedding gift to him. I doubt he's going to get me anything, though, which is perfectly fine.

  • I agree that it's kinda silly to get a gift on top of all the other wedding expenses. The only reason I am getting my FI one is because I've been planning it since we started dating (yeay, I'm weird....). I am making a scrapbook for him that will basically be the story of 'us'. Most guys wouldn't like something like that I don't think, but my FI's favorite thing in the world are our travels together and some of the memories we have shared. Those are more important to him than anything else, and we don't really have an album even of everything we have done together. So I think he will love seeing this on his wedding day, a reminder of what we have done together, and look toward our future.

  • Thanks Everyone! I definitely agree - we are paying for the wedding and gifts just seem unecessary.
