Football fans please help!!!

So fiance and I always wanted a fall wedding but are HUGE Husker football fans. When we got engaged the hall that we wanted was booked every weekend until October. Because the Huskers are moving to the Big 10 next year their schedule was not out yet. We decided to take the next weekend that was open. Out date is October 8, 2011. Just happens to be the Ohio state game. We knew there would be a game but that is a BIG one. Is it tacky to play the game durring the reception???

A wedding I went to last fall was held at a legion hall and the other side of the place from where the wedding was being held had the game on tv

I would say that it's not tacky, as long as you do it discreetly -- put the t.v. in a somewhat out-of-the-way place in your hall, put closed captioning on instead of having the volume turned up, etc.  Just be aware that some of your guests (and perhaps part of your wedding party) might be distracted enough by the game to pay less attention to your big reception moments than you'd like.  If you're comfortable with that, go for it.

As a huge husker fan, I think your guests will appreciate that you playing the game. This will also keep your guests at the reception.

    GO HUSKERS!
I don't think it would be tacky to have the game on at your reception...just know that might take some of the attention away from you and the reception, but overall I think your wedding goers will thank you :)

I am pretty sure your guests would be appreciative. We have friends that probably would miss our wedding to go to the game because they are that big of fans, we just decided to do our in August to not have to worry about it. But I definitely do not think it would be tacky. I just might see if you could do it in another room seperate from where the dancing would be, so you dont have people yelling at the TV :)

I agree with the girls above. As a huge football fan, I've had this debate with my non-Husker fan friends many times.. and truth be told, if it's a game that big, unless I'm a bridesmaid, chances are I will leave the reception to watch the game, even if it's a family member (I left my cousin's 2 years ago to go to a bar to watch).  If you want people to stay, play the game on the TV.. I really think everyone will appreciate it!

I've seen it done before and as a Husker fan, I think it works well.  You never know, it may be an afternoon game and be over before your ceremony.

I completely agree. If you have to have the wedding during a game, play it somewhere!!

My best friend's brother is getting married next month on a Husker game-day.  They planned their reception to be a Husker tail-gate party.  So, the game will be on and in full swing!  I'm looking forward to it.  It should be a fun and unique way to celebrate their wedding and still enjoy the game!

There is no such thing as a discreet area for a Nebraska Football game (especially the Ohio State Game next year!) :P  Sorry!!!  I've DJed and been to weddings on game day, no matter what you do, unless you are tailgating, the reception will basically be on hold till after the game lol (gotta love Nebraska)...So I'd have to say its not tacky, its a custom of being from Nebraska :)  Go for it!!  But one word of advice, at least feed your guests during the game, I was at one wedding where they didn't even serve the food till the game was over and that was miserable!!!

I think that you would rather play the game then have most of the guests leave to go watch the game.  We actually ended up picking September 24th as we knew it would not be a big game (since it was a non conference game already scheduled) for that very reason.  But if for some reason that game is on at night then we will wheel in a tv for the reception as well and you will probably annoy some but angry football fans would be worse!

I'm sure the guests would like it.
