dress makers??

I am thinking of having my dress made. Does any one know the price range for this? And of any good dressmakers here in ohio????? Thanks

    I think the price range varies greatly by the person, the material you choose, and the overall design.  I am getting my dress made in New York where I live (but my wedding is in Cincinnati), so I don't have any specific dressmakers to recommend.  But in terms of price, my dress was slightly cheaper than comparable dresses I was looking at.  Moreover, I am saving more money because the dressmaker, unlike a lot of bridal stores, isn't charging me for each alteration  because she is custom making the dress for me.  Alterations can be several hundred dollars. 

    The main advantage of having a dress made is that you will get to pick all the pieces of dresses you like and find your perfect dress.  And it will be a unique dress that only you will have.  I would say the only downside I've found so far is that you really have to use your imagination and trust the dressmaker - I ordered my dress in July, and won't try it on for the first time until January - so all I have is an idea in my head of what it is supposed to look like.

    I know this isn't in Ohio, but many brides on Wedding Bee and Project Wedding have recommended a lady named Janet in Michigan.  Her store is called My Big Fat Beautiful Wedding.  She is a dress maker.  Try her out!

    I don't know if it's too late to mention this but there's a wonderful seamstress in Miamisburg, OH (outside of Dayton) named VonLear.  She worked in NY for 10+ years.  She has 6 sample dresses in the store and was happy to show me around the store.  She has a bunch of sketches.  She is really great and took a lot of time with me, even though I wasn't sure I wanted her to make the dress.
