What is Your Groom Doing the Day-of?

Our ceremony is at 2:30 and our cocktail hour starts at 6 PM so we will do the majority of our photos in between.

I'm looking for suggestions for things to do around Philly with my Groomsmen the morning through early lunch time on the day of the wedding.  What is your guy doing?  Are there any places to do skeet/trap shooting?!

Thanks Ladies.

Sincerely,

The token male on this entire board...

  • Where are your ceremony/reception?  Where are you getting ready?

    Ceremony: Old Saint Mary's
    Reception: The Downtown Club
Preparation: Omni Hotel - Independence Park
  • The guys all stayed at hotel since my H is English everyone on his side was OOT.

They had breakfast, then hug out by the pool.  Then had lunch got ready had pictures then left.  I don't think they had tons of time.

I have no idea what skeet/ trap shooting is, so no help there.

We had another guy a few years ago.
  • My groom is getting ready at the Omni, church @ 2:30, DTC reception. He is getting up, having breakfast, getting ready, having lunch taking some pictures with his parents & groomsmen. That is it. 2:30 is an early ceremony to do an activity, IMO.

  • We're in the same situation timewise as you - ceremony at 2:30 and reception at 6:00.  But our photographer wants to start doing the groom "getting ready" pictures at 11am, so that we can do our first look, some bride/groom shots and family formals before the ceremony. So I'd check with your photog about their timing before making big plans!

I think you said you're getting married April 2013, right?  If so, def come up with some ideas now, but I'd wait until about this time next year to make formal plans.  That way you can get a better idea of the day of timing and whether you or your GM will be needed to run errands, get things ready, or entertain OOT family or something.

That said, FI and I each plan to try to have some "me" time in the morning. I think there area several 5Ks the morning of our wedding and FI will likely register for one of them.  Then he'll likely just relax a little bit until the GM gather.  And since my hair/makeup team arrives at 7:30, I'll do a short run on my own before that.

  • Yeah, that's the thing, my GM and I are all pretty early risers and very active.  It just seems like there is a good chunk of time prior to everything getting started and I'd like to be able to do something with the guys.  As far as errands go my Fiance convinced me that the coordinator and her assistant would be the ones running the errands, etc.  Maybe I've got that mixed up.

Although I will not be one of them, half of my GM will probably get up around 5 AM and go run around the city for a bit (that's what they like doing when they go to a new city or go on a business trip).  I'm an early riser as well.  I just want to come up with something.  Otherwise we'll be sitting in a hotel room from like 7:30 AM onward.

A colleague of mine went to the casinos before his wedding. He won enough money at, I think, craps that they were able to upgrade their flights to first class.

I don't know of any skeet shooting, but there's a rock climbing gym nearby, as well as the yards brewery tour.

Perhaps this website may be of some use:

    brood,

My friend got married this summer and her now-husband went with his GM to a golf course (or driving range, I can't remember) beforehand and hit a bunch of balls. I would assume my fiance will do something similar with his GM on the morning of our wedding.

Do you guys golf? If so, that's a fun way to occupy some time. (There have to be driving ranges in Philly, right . . . ?)

  • You could kill some time and check out the new casino...Sugarhouse?  Just an idea or maybe even take a nice walk around Penns Landing to show the OOT guys the waterfront. A cab from where you are should be a quick ride there and back.
