Navy blue bridesmaids

Iam doing navy blue bridesmaid dresses, and my fiance wants to wear a black tux. Will these colors go well together or what could we do for the groomsmen? Maybe my fiance could do black and ivory? And the GM black and navy? HELP!!

Re: Navy blue bridesmaids

  • The groomsmen should also wear black tuxes if the groom does.

But navy blue bridesmaid dresses will be fine.
  • We had navy dresses and the men all wore black tuxes. I didn't care for how the navy vest looked with the black coats, so our solution was to have the men in sage green vests, which was our other color. Together the black tuxes and blue dresses looked great though.
  • The colors will be fine together.  A tuxedo should always be black and since black is a neutral color it can be paired with everything.  Anyway, it isn't like your BM are going to plastered against the GM all night so really it doesn't matter.

  • You could have the GMs wear grey. I think that blue and grey look really sharp together. Otherwise, I think that navy and black would be fine.
  • I agree that tuxedos should only be black and only be worn in the evening. Also, if the guys are in tuxes, the girls should be in at least cocktail-appropriate dresses and preferably evening gowns. For SIL's wedding, which was outside in the afternoon, the bridesmaids (including me) were in sundresses and the groomsmen (including then-fiancé, now husband) were in tuxes. It looked pretty weird. Plus, the girls froze because it was March.

I went to a wedding this year where the bridesmaids were in navy and the groom/groomsmen were in black tuxedos. It looked nice, and I didn't think a second thing about it. ETA: The dresses were charmeuse, so there was a slight shimmer which provided a pretty contrast.

I'm going to disagree with others about grey tuxedos. While I wanted my H to wear a black tuxedo, he wanted to choose his attire and have it be a surprise to me. He went with grey tuxedos, black ties and no vests. It was not what I was expecting but it still looked sharp.

  • Navy blue sounds fine don't over think too many things. This made me have a question though...no tuxedo if the wedding is in the daytime hours? We are considering a Sunday early afternoon wedding in the fall.
  • Tuxedos should only be black.

Anything else is considered a suit in my eyes, not a tuxedo.

  • I am having a September, evening wedding. Our bridesmaids are wearing navy dresses and our groomsmen are wearing grey suits with navy vests and ties. I wanted FI to wear a navy suit, however that is proving to be a hard task to fullfil. We may end up with him also in a grey suit, but with a grey vest and grey tie.
