Fellow Catholics...

What did you give up for Lent?

I gave up "junk food" but I am construing it liberally so that it's basically all bad-for-me food (fried food, pizza, etc.). The worst part is that today is cake day at work!

Re: Fellow Catholics...

  • i gave up chocolate and chips of any kind including tacos, nachos and all that jazz. Maybe I will lose some pounds from this. lol. This is going to be hard, especially not having chocolate of any kind including my favorite cookies, oreos.

  • I gave up Facebook and chocolate. Double whammy. With Facebook, I decided my time could be better spent for the duration of Lent doing more productive things. Chocolate is where the sacrifice really comes in!

  • I love Lent... I feel like it's a perfect time to get re-aligned and focused.

I'm giving up ice cream, fast food, beer, and snacking after 9 PM.

So on Easter I'll be dunking McDonalds chicken nuggets into an ice cream sundae at 9:30PM while drinking a Brooklyn lager.  :)

Im limiting my pop consumption to one a day. Whether its a can or fast food or whatever. Just one. We had a really great sermon a few weeks ago on fasting, so I was inspired by this to try it out.
I might do no food after 9 pm as well. Thats a smart one.
I thought about adding fast food, but being in college that is such a social thing its really hard to give up for 40 days, and Id miss out on things i think.

  • I gave up buying lunch. Even days I pack lunch and bring it to work I still opt for take-out.  Hopefully this will bring a healthier and wealthier me by the end :)
  • My finace and I both gave up eating out for lent. Hoping it will help our waistlines and our wallets.

Its going to be a long lent..cause we both love to eat out.

  • I use to be Catholic - and I remember the only time I ever stuck with it - I had given up icecream.

I forgot about Lent - and Abuela is Catholic and I cooked meat yesterday. Oops. Embarassed

Yeah - but I totally felt bad. I mean - there wasn't much non-meat stuff in the house - so she didn't really have a choice.

Which I swear is TOTALLY real. I "stopped being Catholic" in 8th grade - but it took until like two years ago (I'm 24) for me to get over the no meat on Friday thing.

I'm trying to keep a peaceful  state between Abuela and I - so I'm thinking about taking her to Spanish Catholic mass on Sundays - so maybe I'll get reconverted. :op
