alcohol

I am looking into a few venues where I am able to bring my own alcohol and was wondering how am I supposed to know what kinds to bring.  I used a calculator to find out how many bottles of each to bring but dont know what kind.  Do I buy good wine, cheap wine, sweet/dry, what kind of beer, ect.  Any suggestions are appreciated!

We had a venue that was BYOB. Our caterer told us what to bring.

We bought mid-level wines Woodbridge/Yellowtail/Sutterhome, etc..  Nothing too expensive.  More white than red.

    As for liquor we had

    Vodka
    Gin
    Jack Daniels
    Rum
    Capitan Morgan
    Peach Schnapps
    Jim Beam
    Sweet/dry Vermouth for martini's

Are just some of the basics.

We had a big beer selection:  Miller Lite, Labatt (since most of our guest were from upstate NY they are big Labatt drinkers) IC Light, Yuengling, and Heinken.

We bought a TON of liquor and were able to return it with a receipt.  We had a lot of beer left over too but we sold it to a private club that my brother belong too since we knew we were not going to drink it.  Check with your catering manager too.

    Edit:

I just found this in my emails and it was based upon our guest list of 300 people from our catering manager:

    Smirnoff Vodka – 8 Bottles

    Crown Royal – 3 Bottles

    Jack Daniels – 6 Bottles

    Jim Beam – 4 Bottles

    Southern Comfort - 3

    Tangeray – 4 Bottles

    Vermooth – 4 small bottles – 2 dry – 2 sweet

    Peach Schnapps – 2 Bottles

    Bacardi Rum – 3 Bottles

    Captain Morgan – 3 Bottles

My suggestion is to buy what you and your guests like.  Buy the cheap stuff if that is what the majority of them drink.  It is okay if you buy too much liquor because you can always return it to the state store.  If you are responsible for all the beer you buy, maybe ask if any friends have a beer meister which would take the rest or contact a local bar to see if they would be willing to buy any full containers off of you.  I do not know if the beer distributors would take back whole ones.

    Good Luck!

If you go to a Wine & Spirits store, they have a printed out guide that they can give you that says how much of each type of liquor to buy for X amount of people.  We just bought all of our alcohol this past weekend and the people at the Wine & Spirits on McKnight by Best Buy were SOOO helpful.  We ended up buying some cheaper brands too (Absolut rather than Ketel One, etc.) so it didn't cost as much as we originally anticipated.  It's our wedding and our money and our guests can drink what we chose to buy.

And like CLW102409 said, keep your receipt so you can return anything that's leftover!!
