Photography Contract-HELP!

The photographer we want to book with states in the contract that the balance (what is left after the deposit) must be paid in full 7 days prior to the wedding.

Is this the norm? We are worried that if we pay in full for proofs and albums that we may not actually receive them later on.

We payed the balance off before the wedding, I am not sure if that is the norm but I know my photographer personally so I wasn't worried.

Ours required to pay in full on the day of or before the wedding. I'm thinking that's normal unless you've got an a la carte package where you add the albums/hard copy pictures on afterward.

Some photographers want the balance before the wedding, others let you pay the balance when you pick up your proofs.  Both are normal.  We owed the balance a week before the wedding, and got everything we were promised.

Our final payment was due before the wedding, and we had no problems whatsoever with getting what we were promised (and good-quality photos).

I paid in full prior to the wedding also.
But check out The BBB to see if there is any problems with them.

Thanks for all the responses. Still confused but at least now I know this isn't the only photographer that asked for the money upfront.

Our deposit was pretty small at $400.  No other payments until two weeks before the ceremony at which time the full balance is due.  Looking thruogh the other responses in this thread, things seem to vary, but paying in full prior to the ceremony seems pretty common.  I know we're not concerned about it and our photographer came to us through a recommendation and our friend obviously had no problem either.

My balance is also do before or on the day of the wedding. I know other people have used him without any problems.

This is normal.  As long as you are using someone reputable that has been in business for a while, your risks are low.

My photographer required 50% down at signing of the contract and the remainder to be paid in full 15 days after the wedding.

I refused to hire a photographer (even ones with good reps like John Acara) who requried full payment before the wedding.  I think its insane that I would pay someone in full before I had seen any of the pictures.

My photographer is Zlatko Batistich www.zlatkobatistich.com
