I was hoping to spend only $1,000......any NJ bands or Djs that are good for that price? Wedding is in Jersey City.

    We booked Bob Albrecht from Fantasy DJs and we were really pleased with his work. We booked the most basic package (just him playing music and making announcements ... no special lights, giveaway props or an assistant DJ) and everything went just fine. That cost us a bit under $1000, and we gave him a separate cash tip at the end of the reception.

    I doubt you'll find a band for $1K, unless you book a small-time band that doesn't specifically play weddings. Maybe you know of a good little band that plays in bars or something? We thought about hiring some college friends who have a cover band that plays in a local bar once in a while, but honestly I just got lazy and didn't want to call and negotiate with them ... it was just easier to hire a DJ from a company. (Plus I don't even think the band is together anymore.)

    I researched so many DJ's and havent seen any below $1500and those are basic packages, sorry. I think bands are quite a lot more too.

    I'm using Colorblind Productions www.colorblindprd.com and my total is around $1100 for ceremony and reception music, basic intelligent lighting, and a husband and wife team to DJ, MC, and act as a bridal assistant/coordinator.

    Cisco DJ's is I think $950 and have been around for a really long time. Not used too often on this board but they are based out Red Bank.

    Bands generally start in the $6k range...and that's for a cheap wedding band. We are paying $8,300 for ours. I'm sure you can find a DJ in your price range, but you probably won't have any extras included other than the DJ and the music.

    We're up around $8k for a band.  I can't imagine you would be able to find one for $1k.  We didn't shop DJ's, but I'm told there are many in that price range.  Be careful, though.  Meet them, see how they perform as MC, make sure they have wireless mics and other expected technologies.

    I really wanted a DJ so I was happy that my fiance did also because bands are really expensive.
    We are using Abe from Soundtrax Enterprises in Fair Lawn. One of my vendors suggested him to us and he is really reasonable and so nice.
