Groom's Cake

Hello! I am thinking of surprising my FI with a Star Wars themed groom's cake. I am a yankee and groom's cakes are not tradition in Pittsburgh, so I'd appreciate any help!

We will have a regular cake and a large cookie table, so I wanted the groom's cake to be smaller. Any thoughts to how many people it should serve? Our wedding will have 100 guests.

Thank you for any help!

How big of a regular cake are you having? 1, 2, 3 tiers?

You could always have the Star Wars cake done for the rehearsal dinner and serve it then instead of at the wedding.

I 100% agree. This way each cake will get a chance in "the spotlight"

It could totally be given at the rehearsal dinner OR you could surprise your FI at the reception (does he know you're getting him a groom's cake?) and give all your guests the opportunity to watch his reaction!! - I'm in debate of when I should reveal it, too and as far as size goes - it's up to you and your budget and if you really want to share it or not! haha

    best of luck! xo

Does your FI have anything in mind?  My FI has known for a while what kind of Groom's cake he wants.

I'm surprising him with his at the RD.  That way there's not way too much cake at the reception, and there's dessert at the RD.

I'm surprising my FI with a groom's cake at our wedding.  He is a huge Chicago Cubs fan so I google searched cubs cake and found a cake that I like.  I showed it to the lady who is making our wedding cake and she knew exactly what size it should be.  With our wedding cake and his groom's cake, we will be able to serve everyone at the reception.  My advice is find a cake you like and then talk to your baker about size.

My friend had her grooms cake in the same area of the cake, but not in the "spotlight". Seperate table.  I agree that your baker should give you advice on serving size.   That would be lots of fun.  The grooms cake was a block "O" for Ohio Sate.  It was fun.

I also plan on having a grooms cake.  I read somewhere that it should serve 20-40 people, but didn't give any tips on WHO to give grooms cake to vs. wedding cake... any ideas?

I spoke with our baker and they will do an apporpriate sized groom's cake based on the number of guests and our wedding cake size.  His cake will be a dragon.  Also, because there will be several people attending with Celiac's, the groom's cake will be gluten free.

    1. Please type in black font.

    2. They should be different flavors so people can choose which they want.

We have around 200 invited. Our cake will serve 130, and the grooms cake will serve 80.

I'm doing a Star Wars cake for my fiance too.  I'm thinking about having it at the RD because I want everyone to see it!!

I would have a waiter bring it out before you cut the cake to it can be surprise, and guests wont have to stop all the fun and and focus on wedding cakes for too long.

The grooms cake should be a different flavor then the wedding cake. (it is most often chocolate but, you could also do his favorite flavor.)

The grooms cake doesnt have to be as big as your wedding cake. The size however, really does depend on the number of people you are having. I would talk to your whomever is doing your wedding cake. You don't have to order the groms cake through them, but they can be a wonderful resource, they handel stuff like this everyday!

    Good Luck!!! :)
