Having a long engagement sucks!!

SO I'm kinda bummed out, I've been engaged now for 11 months and my wedding is 16 months away! Our original plan was to get married in 7 months but we pushed it back so that my dad and his family could come from New Zealand. I lurk on this message board constantly and see all the neat things you ladies check off, and although I am slightly planning things, it seems like its still too far away to cement things. Im going crazy waiting!!! I just want to get married already!

I hear you! I got engaged March 2010, and my wedding is almost finally a year out. We will be getting married October 2012. By the time we get married I will be engaged for 2.5 years!! Ahhhh!!!

I think its awesome though, you get to save money and get everything exactly how you want. You are the first to book everything, so you get first dibs all the time. haha Plus, you only get to be engaged once...enjoy it!! :)

We will be checking things off in no time.

I too have a very long engagement... He proposed 10-14-10 and our date is 12-22-12. At first I hated the long engagement but now I really don't mind. I LOVE to plan, I love the Knot, I love to change my mind 600 times, get good deals from other Knotties on their used wedding stuff, etc. That said, I do wish we were just married but FI does a good job of reminding me that we don't need a piece of paper to make us feel that we are married! ;) Us long engagement girls need to stick together!

I completely understand!! FI and I have technically been engaged since August 2006!! In 2008 I gave the ring back, not because of any problems but because I got tired of everyone asking "when's the date?" "when's the wedding?" so we put it off and focused on other things. He asked again this past December and we're planning for May. He wanted November but I need over a year to plan lol I feel your pain!! Ours would be an almost 6 year year engagement!!

You're day will be here before you know it. FI and I got engaged in Sept. 2009, and my wedding is next month. The long engagement really is wonderful in order to save money and take care of other more pressing issues. And it really gives you a lot of time to plan things thoroughly and really think them through.

I got engaged March 2008 so it will be a 4 year engagement.  For awhile the excitement wore off but now it's surreal that it's so close!  The good thing about a long engagement is that you can have all the time you need to change your mind about everything!  I've replanned my wedding at least 8 times.

We got engaged on our 2 year anniversary and are getting married on our 4 year, so a full 2 year engagement. I definitely got antsy about 10-11 months out, but now it seems like I have so much to do and time is going by so fast!

It'll be here before you know it :)

Until then, book whatever you can as early as you can. We booked are photographer (Travis Harris) about 2 months after we got engaged. If we started looking at photographers NOW, we wouldn't have been able to afford him!

Thanks girls. It sucks a little less when other people go through it too. I started planning already and have a few things down. I will definetly look into photographers now, anything else I have an advantage on with time and should look into?

I got engaged 11/2011 and my wedding is set for 7/2012. I thought it would give time to save and plan since I am not the planning type. But i feel like time has gone by and now i am down to months away!!

We got engage in August 2009 and our wedding is 12-22-12 we'll be engaged for over 3 years by the time we get married! I get really antsy especially when I see my friends getting engaged and then married 6 mo later. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one and I am happy to have the money saved up to make it perfect. I also bought my wedding dress about 2 mo after we got engaged (it better fit!) but I'm happy I did since it was discontinued about a month after I ordered it so not only did I get a great deal on it nobody else will have it!!
  • I can relate.  We got engaged last dec and will be getting married in May of 14.  I got a lot of stuff done early and now all we do is wait until it's closer to do everything else.  I know we did it to save money and so I can lose weight, but I just can't wait until it's close enough to be in full planning mode.  I love planning things.
