Dinner Blessing (XP)

Our pastor will not be able to attend our dinner, and therefore we won't have him to do our blessing.  My grandfather said that he would be willing to do it, and I am trying to find a short, simple blessing for him to say (enough to fit on a notecard).  Any ideas, or websites?

I suggest you use the blessing you use in your home everday.

  • Or just let your grandfather speak from his heart. It doesn't have to be a rehearsed blessing.

I would let your grandfather do whatever he wants... did he ask you what you want him to say?  If he volunteered to do it then I'm sure he's fine saying whatever he thinks is appropriate.
  • He asked me to write something down on a notecard for him, because he gets a little nervous speaking in public.

Okay.  Well I if I were doing a dinner blessing at a wedding, I would say something like this...
"Lord, we are gathered here today to celebrate the love and commitment of (bride) and (groom) in the wonderful bond of marriage.  Father, bless this food that we are about to receive with grateful hearts.  May your generous blessing descend also upon the newly married couple, their family, and friends who are here today. We say this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen."

this!  My stepdad did a rehearsed/written blessing at my shower and it was VERY awkward!!  He does a much more 'natural' & heartfelt prayer at family dinners and I asked him to do that at our reception...I wish I had video of the "rehearsed" blessing. It was actually pretty funny it was so bad.
