Hello all! New here!
We met on skis and got engaged on skis - literally!
I met FI for the first time on the ridge of a mountain while backcountry skiing (non-resort skiing if you're wondering) on the last day of 2007. I was in a relationship at the time, but it was ending very soon. Summer 2008 we started to hang out and then date.
Fast forward almost 3 years - 3 wonderful, amazing years. We were doing some backcountry skiing Saturday, May 28 (you can still ski in May in Utah). Something we both enjoy, among other outdoor pursuits.
I stopped for a snack break and he went on ahead to the ridge of the mountain to find the best route up. After my break, I pass through some trees and I see him at the top. He said I should follow his ski track up as it's the most efficient.
I see my name written in the snow at the first switch back. I just thought "Cute!" But then I get to the next switch back and he wrote WILL... next switch back YOU... the next MARRY... the last ME? He timed it so well, I didn't see him writing it at all!
I knew it was it after the word WILL! We had planned on getting engaged Spring 2011 for about a year now, so I knew it was coming but it would all be a surprise as to HOW. I start skinning up the hill faster and I'm giggling and getting all teary eyed. Once I get to the top (views to the left and right of green valleys) He gets on one knee (on skis, they're Dynafit bindings) and proposes! It was truly the best proposal ever for us. I bawled.
We thought aobut calling our families, but we just sat at the top enjoying the view having lunch and smiling about 10 feet wide and laughing the whole time. The skiing was still good on the way out!
I picked out my ring online. I didn't want a solitaire and I knew I just wanted a single ring. I thought I just wanted a band, but then I found a band with diamonds! The company Brilliant Earth makes rings made of 100% recycled gold, etc and all the diamonds are conflict free and gently sourced from the earth. It was a perfect fit for us.
I am in the process of moving into his house and selling my house. I didn't want to live together until we were engaged as I have a house and watned to be pretty dang sure of things before I sell it. I'm sad to sell my house but on the upside it will pay off my student loans and I'll be 100% debt free!
We're curretly trying to narrow down where to do our wedding - summer 2012. No one lives even in our time zone so all will have to travel. We want it small - just immediate families and a few sets of good friends. 35 tops. It won't be in a typical reception hall, but small, outdoors, intimate, and lots of fun. A Western vacation for all. Some logistics are involved as our initial concept is really out of the way.
Another idea was to get married on skis this winter! Although no one in our family skis so not sure how they can be there to see it.
