I am having my ceremony and reception at the place I am wondering if there is any advice to get everything to run smoothly, like I am trying to do a timeline, but its getting difficult, because of cocktail hour and how am I going to set up the reception in time. I just need some basic advice

    Hi there!

    Our ceremony and reception were at different locations. I had asked 2 friends of ours (Master & Mistress of Ceremonies) to arrive at the reception hall a few hours early and oversee set up. The coordinator at our venue was really helpful with timelines, as was our DJ. He had done tons of weddings before and had some great ideas. I would recommend asking your vendors for help here. After all, that's what you're paying them for! :)

    The biggest thing is to either have a coordinator, or a couple of very organized friends!  My husbands cousins were perfect for the job at our wedding!  They met with all of the vendors and told them where to set up while we were doing before ceremony pictures.  They made sure that everything was ready to go before the ceremony started.  Then IMMEDIATELY after the ceremony, they went to the reception location. (Our ceremony was in the zoo, reception was in the ballroom right outside.)  We didn't do a receiving line.  Instead we let our guests out of their seats and had a minute to thank everyone for attending.  While we were doing that, his cousins let all the vendors know that the guests were headed to the reception.

    I guess what I am saying in all of that long winded story, find someone super organized and then just LET GO!  I am such a planner, but on my wedding day I was able to let go and enjoy the day because I knew that his cousins had everything under control!
