accustic guitar and piano in lieu of recorded music for ceremony?

I am getting married on 12/1/12 and I am thinking instead of having my venue (Occasions at Stone River) play music while people are seated, and while everyone (myself included) walks down the aisle to have an acoustic guitar and piano accompaniment play. Thoughts, good idea or bad? Music selection for them to play?
This isn't going to cost us any extra to have done, and it is my fiance's BIL and his best friend who both play music for fun and for work so they aren't just joe schmo who don't know what they're doing.

  • I've seen this quite a bit. I think if you do acoustic versions to some of your favorite songs it would work out great.

We ended up doing vitamin string quartet versions of some of our favorite coldplay songs and our recessional was VSQs "Kids" originally by MGMT. Not exactly the most wedding-y song, but no one noticed and it sounded super fun and upbeat.

Beatles/Elvis songs sound pretty cool but again, I would go with songs that mean something to you guys.

  • I'm only having a violinist and I'm sure it would be much of the same. We have 30 minutes of just ambient music before the ceremony. Then we chose what music he would play while I'm going down the aisle, unity ceremony, and exit. I dont' think you'd need to choose what they play beforehand. I love acoustic guitarists so I'd be all for it!

  • I think that sounds awesome. I've actually been thinking about doing something similar, but I had no idea where to begin on hiring a duo like that! Do you think they would be interested in playing in someone's wedding who they don't know, for money? :)

  • I used just one solo acoustic guitarist, and it was AMAZING. (I promise I will do my vendor reviews soon. One day).
