Having 35-40 people and I have $500 to spend on a engagment party.
Place to rent a room and have food.
guest can purchase their own alcohol.

or any other suggestion?

We just have a townhouse so we cant fit all these people in there!

    Bimini Boatyard on 17th Street in Ft. Lauderdale is a nice place for something like that...not sure about prices, 954-525-7400.  There is a nice view because it's right on the water.

    Maybe a hotel meeting room? The Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale Downtown City Center (http://www.hamptoninnfortlauderdale.com/) is right in donwtown and has a nice meeting area that can work for you guys and give you privacy.
