Candy Favors

So I hav been thinking about favors lately. And we saw some candy at walmart the other day that I thought I could use for them. But is it too early to buy candy? It's just M&M's but I'm scared they won't be good come May. Any idea hoe long candy lasts or anything I could do to make it last till May? When are you buying any candy?

Re: Candy Favors

  • I think it's still a little early, especially for M&Ms which (IMO) get kind of gross when they're old. I would buy your candy a week or two before the wedding.

  • I would wait until maybe a month before the wedding.

I'm going to start looking around to get some pricing info, but I'm not going to buy anything until mid-April for 2 reasons:

    1. I don't want the candy to go bad (and I'm not sure that it would go bad even if I bought it now, but I'm just worried)

    2. I don't want all that candy in my house because either I will want to eat it or FI will eat it!

  • I already ordered most of the candy for my candy bar-- I checked and everything had 5 month+ shelf life.  It's being stored in my parents' basement, but if I had it at my house I would share CPM's concerns of eating it!!

The only thing I'm waiting until May to order is fortune cookies.

Here's a good link with the shelf life for various candy types:

<div>This.  Most candy you buy at the store has probably been in storage and on the shelf for a lot longer than you'd think.  We already have all of the candy for my candy bar.</div>

It depends what you are buying. I have bought all the suckers, gummys, hard candies (right after valentines because they are all romantic/heart themed and super cheap) for our pinatas, but I would wait till closer for anything chocholate, mostly because chocolate tends to turn white quicker then it actually 'goes bad', and I dont want it to look like its old if people eat them. Candy definatly does not go back  so fast that its too early for anything else though.

  • I plan to order one month before the wedding so there's plenty of time for it to arrive and it will still be fairly fresh.

PP thanks for the link to shelf life info, very helpful!
