First draft of my vows... (repost from vows board)

No one is on the wedding vows board very often so I'm reposing here for feedback and suggestions...

Ed, I choose you for the way your smile lifts my spirit, for the way you support and respect me, and for the way you make me feel about us.

I promise to always be honest and open, to share all my hopes, fears, and dreams.

I promise to keep laughing with you, even when we are laughing at ourselves.

I promise to faithfully care for you with an open heart and with tenderness.

I promise to always accept you as you are because that is who I fell in love with.

I promise to never go to bed angry or let one of us sleep on the couch - because some day we will have a disagreement.

I promise to remind you how great you are and to tell you just how much I love you each and every day, maybe even every hour as we sometimes do today.

I promise to always kiss you good night and goodbye.

I promise to share park benches with you until we can no longer get ourselves to the park.

I promise that we will continue to be the couple that others admire.

I promise to be at your side in sorrow and in joy and to love and cherish you always.

I promise this from my heart and with my soul as I dedicate myself to our marriage, our friendship and our life together.

I give you this ring as a symbol of my promise to always love and respect you.

Just my two cents! Penny L G M

  • I think the sentiments are very nice, but it's a little long. If you're the type to get emotional it will be really hard to get through all of those.

I would also use other synonyms for promise like vow, will, etc.

  • We agreed to make a list of promises to each other so I will probably keep the wording the same in that respect.

I know they're long. That suits me very well... I speak fast and talk alot. I don't anticipate getting too choked up but who knows, I may. I think that depends what he says to me in his vows (he is going first).

We've planned 30 minutes for the ceremony and our officiant has planned enough time for me to get through the whole list.

  • I think they are very beautiful and from the heart. They are things that will keep the two of you close if you up hold them. I do however agree that you might consider either combining some of them that go together into one phrase or choose other synonyms. I don't think they are too long, all  of the promises are wonderful but it does seem a little wordy saying I promise so many times.

  • The feedback is much appreciated. I changed every other "I promise" to "I will". Thank you ladies!
