Are engagement gifts like bridal shower/wedding gifts in that you should not use them until you are married? I've gotten a few small things off of my registry, so I was wondering if I should pack them up and put them somewhere (wedding isn't for almost a year), or if we can use them now. Sorry if this is super obvious! I just wanted to be sure...
Re: Engagement Gift Etiquette
However, my mom sent me something off my registry for my birthday and I told her I used it - it was a birthday gift, even though it happened to be something I registered for.

We used ours right away. I wasn't going to keep things in boxes in my house for a year when we already lived together and were able to make good use of them. As far as I was concerned, the presents were for the engagement and we were definitely already engaged (as opposed to early wedding presents which are for the wedding).
A friend of mine broke off her engagement prior to the wedding. When she attempted to return her engagement gifts, her family said it wasn't necessary unless she didn't want the reminder...so she gave them to her little sister who has now been happily married for four years.
